[00:00:04] Speaker A: Y Yo, what up, bro? Y' all stand for OT Turkey Day, by the way. N. Get that bread, bro. I gotta stay for O.T. listen up, workers. Overtime is mandatory this weekend. No excuses. [00:00:24] Speaker B: Let me work. [00:00:25] Speaker C: Please let me work. Let me work. Please let me. [00:00:33] Speaker D: Like that, like that. It's Monday. [00:00:38] Speaker C: I motivated. I got plans to do some bigger stuff. They say that was big, but to me that wasn't big enough. You don't want to be me. You couldn't live up to the slander while unappreciation on the daily part of the package. When you look across the spectrum, you can see that I distinctly many nights little sleep. Being successful is demanding. I'm never satisfied. And that's the reason for the intro. They called me in the store. Cause I don't look like what I've been through. The weight up on my shoulders they can't wait to see you blew it. I got nobody to act. I the only person that do this. So I don't care how bad she is or whatever her status. I sue into myself. She think I treating her average. The more I'm criticized, they give me the motivation to keep applying pressure. That pressure making them shaky. I got it out the mud. I wasn't the people favorite. I'd rather get it way no man can see that. He admitted Be yourself. [00:01:44] Speaker A: What's happening? What's happening? [00:01:45] Speaker E: My bike. [00:01:46] Speaker A: What's up, y'? All? What's going on? What's going on? It's your main man, DJ High Star here with another episode of Mandatory Overtime here at Mandatory Overtime. The aim here at Mandatory Overtime is to recalibrate manhood in our community. Redefine manhood in our community. And that's through discussion and with every conversation that we have. So I appreciate all y'. All. Simply an audio journal of an 80s baby social experimenting, consistency. You could have been anywhere in the world, but you're here listening to me. And for that, I appreciate you. I appreciate you. Okay? I appreciate all y' all for that. Thank you. Don't confuse this with the man is fair. It's just a. Excuse me. Don't confuse this with the manosphere. It's just a place where the man is fair. So pull up a chair. Subscribe. Share. Like Comment. I messed that up anyways. Don't confuse this with the manosphere. It's just a place where the man is fair. So like comment. Subscribe. Share. Pull up a chair and make some noise, cuz your man is here, y'. All. You heard. Live from Charlotte, America. Of course. Hey, yo, they Say, I got a Russian sound engineer and a check, one, two. A check, one, two. Hello. Oh, man. Smooth. Let's go to work. What's going on, y'? All? Listen, I hope everybody's doing well. Shout out to y', all and welcome to another episode of Mandatory Overtime. Of course, just fresh off the holidays. Salute to the holiday season and everything that was going on there. We're gonna definitely discuss how the holidays went and speak a little bit about, you know, everything going on with Turkey day and. And all of that stuff. But first, I did want to get to some mandatory overtime, if you will. There's some mandatory. We got to talk about real quick, y'. [00:03:55] Speaker F: All. [00:03:57] Speaker A: Anyways, so I get a phone call this morning, y'. [00:04:00] Speaker D: All. [00:04:01] Speaker A: Phone call from. Well, first. First and foremost, I get my good morning text from Reb. Everything is smooth. Everything is regular. And then I get a phone call. Hold on now, because y' all know I work overnight. But nevertheless, long story, less long. Her car was not starting for her this morning, so I'm more than 40 minutes away. It's a very helpless situation that I felt about, or, you know, helpless vibe that I felt about the situation. I had some other engagements going on as well, and I just felt. I felt. I felt in the. Like, I felt helpless in that situation. So, like, how much could I really, you know, kind of control from where I was at, the outcome of the situation? So, long story less long. Ms. Harib. She went to work in an Uber, and we arranged that I was gonna pick her up from work, fast forward the story a little bit. I went ahead and picked her up from work, and we got over to her house. I'm gonna try to keep this story as short as possible. Y'. All. Hold on. Let me see if I can explain it a little bit quicker for y'. All. Let's see. [00:05:16] Speaker B: Hold on. The lady called, broke down, and I told her, listen, I could. I could start your battery for you. She said, we need jumper cables. I said, no, you don't. I put my hands on them. [00:05:27] Speaker A: On the battery. [00:05:28] Speaker B: I got this little thing that I do. I told her, give me the keys. I jumped in there and cranked the car. [00:05:32] Speaker A: She said, you my angel. [00:05:33] Speaker B: I say speak nothing of this, you know? [00:05:36] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:05:37] Speaker B: The lady. Car was broke down, and I told her this. [00:05:41] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah, big dog. Yeah, Breadwinner. Huh? Breadwinner. Yeah, big dog. Big stepping. That's how I was coming. Big dog. You heard me. You heard me? Okay. All right. You heard me. Yeah, yeah, Big. Big. Yeah, Breadwinner. Breadwinner. Provider. Yeah, I was in there. I had to. You know, I mean, I had to do my little one, too. And then I got that. You. Know, My fault for that last part, y', all, but I was just. I was just elated. I was very happy when I got the car fixed. Y' all. Did it myself. It was very, very similar to that Kevin Gates interview just now. I'm gonna be honest with y', all. Okay? I'll be real with y' all and give y' all some details. I pop the hood. When I popped the hood, I saw by the battery terminal a lot of corrosion or whatnot that was going on, which is fine. And to be frank, it's normal, or I see it. You know, normally with people's cars, it's not a place that you just go to and you keep up daily. But nevertheless, I noticed that, and I just. You know, I just mentioned it to my lady. Hey, this looks very corroded. This is more than likely the issue. We just got to simply get this cleaned up. And, you know, I alluded to that being the issue. Asked if there was any soda around. Y' all know what. What time it is with that, with the. With the Coca Cola and the Pepsi on the battery terminal. But nevertheless, there was a lot of corrosion. But there was a tool that we already had purchased previously, so use that tool. You know, manhood. Come on, y'. [00:07:51] Speaker G: All. [00:07:51] Speaker A: You know what I'm saying? I went ahead and stepped in. I was the man in the situation. Boom. Went. Tightened up the battery terminal, cleaned up the corrosion. Okay. Cranked that car like it was brand new. Hello. And I just looked and shook my head. The reason I shook my head is because when I suggested that that's what the issue was, the corrosion, I was met with some resistance, y'. All. Immediately. Immediately. No, it's not. It's not that. Like, the. And. And to her credit, it was a long day. She was frustrated, so I understand. But again, as the man, I was trying to. You know what I'm saying, y'? All? Y' all feel me? I don't want to spend too much time on that, man. Ah, I'm just. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Like that. Bread winner. Yeah, yeah. Big stepper. Yeah. Rest in peace, Mozzie. Yeah. All right. But. So that's essentially what happened after I got the car started. Just gloated in. In that for a little bit. But there's two situations, and this is an early random thought, but there's two situations, ladies, that when fellas mention anything about the negligence, you should pay a little bit attention to us. I'll say. The battery corrosion on the terminal. And then can anybody else guess? Can anybody. Nobody? That lint sheet in the dryer, that lint little build up, that little fur. The little fur on the lint thing, Y' all got to get rid of that, okay? Because, ladies, y is thick as wool, okay? A whole. A whole sweater on your dryer. Little contraption. And it's a fire risk. Okay? I'm gonna just be honest. So those two things, ladies, and I mean, outside of that, you know, it's all good. But I just had to. I felt good, give myself another round of applause for that. Pat myself on the back. Tell me, y', all, boy. And I was doing it with a smile because I knew exactly what the issue was. So shout out to me with that one. Right? Nevertheless, let's go ahead and move forward with this week's show. Y', all, I appreciate that y' all patience on the intro, but I had to get that off my chest. I told Arie B. As soon as it happened. Yo, you know that this is going on the show, right? You know this is going on the show, but we're going to go ahead and move to our building wisdom segment for the week. All right, I got a couple of building wisdoms that we're going to play, and one of them. Well, I'm going to play one, but I have a couple to read. One from cousin Jerome. He has some Thanksgiving love he sent to us, of course. But Monday's motivation here. Challenges are gifts that force us to search for a new center of gravity. Challenges are gifts that force us to search for a new center of gravity. So shout out to that. And let me see here. I also wanted to shout out Taz. So shout big. Shout out to Taz. Taz. Actually, he'll send out motivation every day as well. So a couple of his I've wanted to read to y'. All. There are some things you can only learn in a storm. [00:11:43] Speaker D: Come on. [00:11:44] Speaker A: Storms make trees. It takes deeper roots. Storms make trees. Take deeper roots. It's deep. That's deep. Hold up, hold up. Okay. Difficulty. Strengthen the mind as labor does the body. Tough. Begin at once to live and count each separate day as a separate life. We suffer more often in imagination than in reality. And only time can heal what reason cannot also associate with people who are likely to improve you. Shout out. Shout out to big brother Taz and Taz Turismo. He's doing his thing consistently on the YouTube and the Twitch. All right. And I'm gonna go ahead and play this as well, this clip for our Building Wisdom segment. Hold on. [00:12:48] Speaker C: We ain't in all of that, son. [00:12:49] Speaker G: Build, destroy. The build is to elevate the mentalities of self and those around self to add positive energy to every nation. To build, you must first start from the root, which is the knowledge foundation, and add on to the highest peak. To destroy is to eliminate and destroy any and all negativity that enters my cipher of supreme harmony. [00:13:09] Speaker A: Peace, God, Do the knowledge. [00:13:16] Speaker H: Best things to say is problem comes up. One of the best things to say is, all is well, everything is working out for my highest good. And out of this situation, this so called problem, only good will come and I am safe. And you know, this is something that's very powerful. All is well, Everything is working out for my highest good. Out of this experience, only good will come and I am safe. And what that does, it quiets your mind down or my mind down long enough for the universe to find a solution for the so called problem. [00:13:53] Speaker A: But what about the person watching right now who is saying, louise, hey, I love you and I'm glad, I'm glad you say that. But Louise, with all due respect, right now, in my life, you don't know. All is not well. Everything is not working out for my good. I do not not feel safe right now. No matter how many times I say that all is not my life right now. [00:14:09] Speaker H: If you say it enough times, it will become so. It really will, because you will be changing your thinking. If I have a real problem, I will babble that incessantly for innumerable times because I know it will change the atmosphere around me. It'll change what I'm giving out. And yes, it's true that to start with, that may be a terrible problem and you can't do anything about it right now. But as you start to know that you are safe and you're in a universe that loves you, I mean, how many times a day do people say this loves me, really loves me, And I'm so grateful and I'm so appreciative of life. And if you're a person that does that a lot, your life has to get better. It has to. [00:14:56] Speaker D: Be. [00:14:59] Speaker A: All right, so shout out to the Building Wisdom segment of this week. You know, again with anything that if y' all see anything out there or find anything that y' all would like to share with the show, as far as building wisdom, feel free to do so. Y' all know this is an interactive thing. It's Very. You know, the engagement is definitely encouraged. You can always email us at mandatoryot704gmail.com again as mandatory ot704gmail.com I want to pause real quick and wish my Auntie Trina a happy birthday starting December off right, y'. All. I want to wish her a happy birthday. I love you dearly. It's my mother's sister and I hope that you are enjoying yourself and on your vacation. But happy, happy birthday to my Aunt Katrina. Like I mentioned, though, and I'm sorry for that random y'. All. But y' all can email the show mandatory ot704gmail.com or you can call the hotline, the voicemail, if you will, 704-781-7011 and leave a voicemail. Leave a voice note. That's more than encouraged as well and more than welcome. You know, we just celebrated things given once again. So it was. I was remiss to not mention it last episode. I was kind of rushing last episode had a lot going on and wanted to get the episode out to y'. All. However, I do want to recognize the holiday season and my reason for the holiday and has to express gratitude, y'. All. There's some a bunch of important reasons to stay grateful and stuff, but it just helps your overall health and energy. Believe me when I say it. But gratitude needs to be the attitude. And that's what I'm rolling with, y'. All. You know what I'm saying? That's how I'm coming is pause, is gratitude is the attitude. So, you know, and the perfect time to have gratitude and, and to show gratitude is when things aren't going picture perfect and not going the best. Then that's when I want y' all to dig deep and think about the things that you're grateful for. All right? Do an exercise and think about the things that you prayed for a year ago. That's all around you. Think about the things that you prayed for five years ago that are now right there before you. You know what I'm saying? So there's plenty of things to be grateful for. I went ahead and reached out to a couple of our listeners and I asked them to share with me what they were grateful for. But I will say Sock is the first to leave a voice note, a voicemail on our voice on our hotline. So he'll be getting, you know, I'm gonna show some love by my dog a drink or something comparable and show him some love. But I do want to get to the Voicemails and everything like that, y'. All. So here it goes, man. Again, I want to say it beforehand, but I appreciate all of y', all, and I'm tremendously grateful for the community that we're building and to all of the listeners. [00:18:15] Speaker B: Hello. [00:18:15] Speaker D: Please leave a message after the tone. Yo, Mandatory ot. It's your boy Shot man calling in. Let y' all know what I was thankful for. Two things I'm thankful for. First, I want to say I'm thankful for my cousin Nikita, man. Last year, some change, she been holding me down, man. You know what I'm saying? You feel me? I mean, quite appreciative of nobody. I'm more appreciative other than her. I'm saying, shout out to you. Keita did this. Lastly, shout out to myself, you know, I put my back up against the wall, bet it on myself, you know, and I prevail. You know what I mean? So feels good. You know, I'm saying going into a new year, I'm saying some accomplishments and more things to look forward to. So, you know, shout out to mandatory ot, you know what I'm saying? Stop checking out. [00:19:47] Speaker A: All right? [00:19:47] Speaker I: It's DJ gq. [00:19:49] Speaker A: And something I'm grateful for this holiday season is my life, my family, and my health. The older you get, you realize that everyone's life comes with its own set of circumstances and things that they have to deal with and go through. I'm grateful to have my family and friends, my loved ones to celebrate life with. And I'm grateful that I don't have any major health issues. Peace. [00:20:28] Speaker I: This holiday season, I'm grateful for as I am always. And that's family, and that's friends, that's everyone that I may come in contact with where I can spread some love or some joy. It's a beautiful thing when we can come together as we one to. To just be on one accord for whatever it is. [00:20:44] Speaker C: And. [00:20:45] Speaker I: And. And the holiday season, is that that thing or that one accord that brings us together a lot of the time? So I'm just grateful. For family, I'm grateful. For friends, I'm grateful. [00:21:18] Speaker A: Hey, what's up? It's your girl, Kita, AKA the one and only Patriot Patty. Yeah, that's me. That's me. That's me. But, nah, first and foremost, I'm thankful for life itself. People take life for granted, and life is very short. So I'm grateful to be. Be able to open up my eyes every day, honestly. And what I'll close out with is I am also thankful that my Patriots are back. Okay, we have haters again. We are back. Oh, all right. Y' all have a good one, though. [00:22:13] Speaker I: Yo, it's your boy, fat boy. Hey, calling in or leaving the voice note to let you know. All the things I'm thankful for. Don't mind that noise. I'm in the car. I ain't got my seatbelt on. Check this out, though. I'm thankful for a lot of things, most importantly my life, my kids, of course, all the people that's in my life that means something to me. I'm thankful for them. High Star, I'm thankful for you. Not only for giving me a voice, but giving me the opportunity to be a part of mandatory ot. So I appreciate that. Love and blessings to everybody. And peace for fam. [00:22:58] Speaker J: Hi, Minister ot Fam. It is me, Ari V. And I am immensely grateful for my community, the people that I'm around, my friends, my family, and everybody in between that shape who I am. I'm immensely grateful for them. I'm grateful for God's love as it's shown through the people that I am around. I'm also grateful for the ability to reflect and make decisions and think about what worked and what didn't work. I do that every single year or just give myself time to reflect and manifest for the next year. And then finally, I'm just grateful to be living life the way I am. Not everyone is able to get up, be, and do so. I'm just blessed to be living in my purpose and creating opportunities to shape young people's purposes. So I'm just grateful for the career path that I chose. So happy holidays. I love this exercise. Shout out to DJ High Star. Immensely beyond grateful for him as well. So happy holidays and stay grateful. [00:23:57] Speaker A: Y' all. Like that? Like that show Love it don't show nothing. It don't cost nothing to show a. [00:24:19] Speaker C: How we doing is getting money. [00:24:33] Speaker A: Rowling. And I'm thankful for love. Yeah, yeah. Rowley. [00:24:41] Speaker G: We going to say our grace before we. Your white friend say she not used to food with seasoning you a nutmeg. That's something Peter Griffin would say. My uncles drink until they fight, but we a soccer team, so everybody kick it Today. My brother's going on that walk for the third time. You should see a man trying to be discreet, looking like they from the Uchia clan. Grandma shaking her head at him. Somebody look at this. The potato salad nasty every year. Hope you cooking this. The macaroni better be busting. They go for ham and the yams turnip greens, string beans in the stuffing you bought your boot ain't and realized it's the wrong thing. Your family asking where your ex and calling him the wrong name? Your aunties gossiping about your business they need better things asking why you ain't married and they ain't got a wedding ring Messy, messy, but you still love them and it's a blessing. Blessing your swag was on cranberry sauce so you did extra dressing trying to impress the rest of the the guest so ain't no second guessing. So you and your cousin still beefing over them petty flexes. Damn, the spade game almost ending the squabble they about to throw hands, Daddy watching the game and mama cranking them slow jams. The only time we all in unison is when we hold hands and tell God we grateful for the food and for the whole fam. I'm thankful for the things I got, even the things I don't have. Praises to the man up above for blessing my whole clan. And I'm thankful. [00:26:02] Speaker A: Yo y' all did y' all thing with that. I really appreciate everybody that participated and was able to get their voice notes in. Don't fret if you didn't hear or if you didn't make it by the deadline, if you will. I'm gonna be keeping this going all holiday season. That. That felt real good. Y' all all remember gratitude is the attitude for the day. So again, shout out to y'. All. Can't say that enough. It's us building community, right, man, but gratitude is definitely the attitude. Shout out to brother Aem Ali. I'm not sure if y' all are familiar with him, but that's who was on that song just now that you were hearing. That's one of his original songs called Thankful that he has up on social media and stuff. So shout out to that brother. He's been seen previously on, like, the 85 South Show. They do like a live music version of their show. That was the first time I ever saw him where he was his Persona, Kimi Casanova. And that's when his again, his artistry and stuff stood out to me. Great, great lyricist, great artist, great rapper and everything like that. So shout out to him. Also at the beginning of the show, I did play a clip from my brother, Dr. Justin Buford, Dr. J.B. and that was his Monday motivations. His Monday I motivated, you know, make sure that y' all being yourself out there, shout out to be yourself. So wanted to go ahead and move forward. Let's go ahead and let's go in the lunchroom real quick. We're going out to lunch. Just wanted to let y' all know random things, but we're gonna get to the random thoughts first. We do have to talk out for lunch, as y' all know. And as y' all heard your boy spitting just now about Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving just passed. And one thing that I was able to do, I went in the kitchen, got busy a little bit, y'. All. Okay? Yeah. And I'm talking real deal cooking out here. All right? Wasn't no play play. Didn't do no spaghetti and meatballs or nothing like that. No. We into chicken patties and. No, no, it wasn't nothing like that. I went ahead, I cooked some rice. I prepared spinach dip. Spinach and artichoke dip. Getting nicer at that. But I. I roasted a turkey. Huh? Excuse me? I said I roasted a turkey, y', all. And it came out busting tenderness. All of that. Okay? In addition to that and what complimented that is I made a pan of dressing. Come on, man. Come on. Who blacker than me, huh? Don't get no blacker than that. Y' all so good, too. Celery, carrots, onions, garlic, all of that inside of the dressing. Okay? Please believe me. It tasted like your grannies, right? Tasted like your aunties and tasted very good. And then with the turkey, when it comes to the turkey, I'm just trying to keep everything very concise for y'. All. But it was juicy, tender, chef's kiss. I carved it up nice. Okay. Essentially what I did, though, went ahead and made a compound butter. Took the compound butter, spread that out in between the membrane, like, under the skin and over the, you know, the body of the meat, and just spread the compound butter. For those that don't know, that was like three sticks of butter that I put it together, put together whatever herbs I had. Honestly, not oregano. Excuse me, Rosemary, thyme. Put some garlic in there, a little bit of citrusy zest. So some lemon and some orange zest in there. Some, you know, paprika, onion and garlic powder, some onions, and then you mush it all up together, and there's your compound butter. So, yeah, I took that, lathered the turkey with that. Then I injected turkey with your man Tony Shashri. Tony went ahead and got the injections going on with that, and we put it inside of an oven bag. Putting it in the oven bag, foolproof. But also the binder that I used, I used mustard this time as my binder on the bird. Okay. There was a Lot of preparing prior to. Didn't have a lot of time, but we made it happen. The bird came out great on the reheat. That's the real test. And it tastes even better on the reheat. I promise. Y' all can ask. Ask anybody. Find Sock, Ask Sock, Ask Reb. Ask my cousins. That took all of the turkey that night. Okay. But everything was busting outside of that. And like I said, I want to keep this short and concise. That's what we did, man. I feel. I feel pretty good as my second time ever doing a turkey. The first time was smoking a turkey a couple years ago. So this is the first one inside the oven that I did. Dolo, Big Bird. Big Bird. Okay. Old sesame street. It's 14. 14 pounds, something like that. 14, 15 pounds. You know, that ain't no joke. That take preparation and stuff. Yeah. So nevertheless, though. Nevertheless, we had a good time. That's the out to lunch, out for lunch segment this week. But we still gonna. I still do want us to stay in the break room for a second, because I want to bring up. These are random things. This is very true, but random things that I hear in the break room. I'm gonna say in the break room, but I really mean at work. Random things that I hear. So this is the first random thing that I heard. And this actually came in a training. Early on, whenever I was training at the job, it was a. We had to go into a classroom for a training class. And. And going into the classroom, we had to. There wasn't enough seats available. So I hear this randomly, but which one of y' all young ladies want to sit on? Unclap what? Excuse me? I say. I say, I think I might have told the story on the show, but I say out loud, oh, nah, nah, you wiling, bruh. He repeats it. I said, which one of y' all ladies want to sit on. On Glad? Okay. Yeah, we gotta cancel Christmas. No, we're not doing that. Okay, sir. No, no, sir, you are canceled. We're not doing that. So that. That definitely was one. Another one that I just heard yesterday. This is fresh off of mandatory overtime. I don't know what the conversation was, but I heard a gentleman say, you have to buy a plane or a boat to make it happen. No disrespect, sir, but what the you talking about? That said y' all in a conversation. So hypothetical, my man said, nah, bro, you'd have to buy a plane or a boat to make it happen. What are y' all talking about anywho so some of my random thoughts, they're gonna go in tie into kind of around Thanksgiving week, that Wednesday, I was able to go and see the New York Knicks. Shout out to my Knicks. They came to town, play Charlotte, took care of business per usual. You know, they got going on. I don't want to just drinks nothing. And also shout out to the Panthers while we talking sports. But for their win over the LA Rams, the Knicks, though, put on a great performance. Awesome, awesome time. Had an awesome time out there. I did want to discuss something, though, that I thought about when I was out at the Knicks game. It seems that every team needs, or a team that competes needs two archetypes or prototype as players to help, you know, to glue the team together and help with the team chemistry or whatnot. You okay? So you, for one, you need your bad boy or you need your dog, if you will, right? So back in the 90s, that might have been your Charles Oakley, Dennis Rodman, Rick Mahorns, you know, shoot, there's a couple more that I'm thinking of. But that. Oh, what's unkname that Be on the shows all the time, cursing up a storm and stuff. Vernon Maxwell, you needed those big dogs. Nowadays, it may be like pseudo big dogs where they kind of. They look, they. They bark more than they bite, but they still, they'll look intimidating to the right basketball players. So you need some of them on your team. Some of these players include, but are not limited to. And also, again, this is not that they are about that. Okay, let's get this clear. This is just that with whatever tattoos, whatever, you know, whatever physically or aesthetically that they've done, they appear to be bad boys. All right? I'm starting off kind of weak with a weak one, Very weak one. So I'm admitting that, y', all, But Kyle Kuzma, very. That's a weak one. But y' all see where I'm going with this. The second one I got is Kelly Oubre, okay? Jordan Clarkson, the PJ Washington's of the world. Pj, I feel like I ain't gonna give my opinions on Willie. Carly Stein was dog name Will Carly Stein, or I think that was the name from Kentucky. He took it a little too far. He took it a little too far. And God bless him, praying for him. I hope everything is well with him. But he took it a little too far. The whole bad boy thing, a lot of heavy, heavy drug use. Which brings me to my next guy, Birdman's of the World. So those are the type of, like, scrappy, normally crowd favorites for the team that they play for. You know, they're not proficient, office, offensively scrappy, and give a lot of effort on defense type of guys. Y' all know who I'm talking about. But the second type is, like, it's the basketball version of those small, white slot receivers like Wes Welker and Edelman. Julian Edelman, and who was my Brandon Stokely for the Coast. It's is the basketball version of those. So follow me, y', all, because the Knicks, we got one with Tyler Kolek. Okay, we got one with Kolek, but also you got Caruso. Okay. Indiana with TJ McConnell, y' all following me. New Orleans with Alvarado. So those type of players, too. They're all similar. You know, I just wanted to bring that up as a random thought. Very, very random. I know, but when I was at the game on last Wednesday, I thought about that. Okay? So second random thought is, do niggas with glasses and women with glasses like each other more than they do like other people like glasses less people, and is the same hold true with braces? So that another one. This will kind of go into the show, but when people say, like, then this is to get it off your chest a little bit for me. But when people say, like, oh, man, my phone. I was just talking about this, and my phone pulled up an ad for it. Oh, I was just talking about this, and my phone pulled up the p. It's. It's over, y'. [00:38:33] Speaker B: All. [00:38:33] Speaker A: It's over. All right? We. We signed over these agreements and agreed to terms and conditions of these things where. Let's just say it, y'. [00:38:42] Speaker I: All. [00:38:42] Speaker A: They're recording us. You could say. You could say it. Yeah, that's what's going on. They're recording us. Okay. Through any AI technology and stuff, they could transcribe things or figure out what's being said, what inflection, how frequently he's saying something throughout the day. It's going down, y'. [00:38:59] Speaker D: All. [00:39:00] Speaker A: Okay? So I just wanted to be honest with y' all about that. That was just a random thought of mine. I'm saved this other random thought for a little bit later in the show, but shout out to the random thoughts and shout out to get it off your chest, because I had to get it off my chest. So let's go ahead and move forward, though, All right? I'm still working this new term that I want to coin. I'm still working, working with that and working that out. However, the current name that I'M working with. And that's. That seems to be sticking, if any at all. Is the Truman show effect. The Truman show effect. Y' all talk about it real quick. All right, so before we talk about it, I want to give a little bit of context for those who don't know or not familiar with this movie. This is a movie by Jim. This is a movie that Jim Carrey starred in. And I want to get y' all some context with the movie first. [00:40:30] Speaker F: Peter Weir's the Truman show is a poignant satire that delves into themes of reality, freedom, and the pervasive influence of media. The film follows Truman Burbank, whose entire life is a meticulously crafted television show broadcast to the world without his knowledge. The film delves into the ethics of reality television, questioning the line between entertainment and exploitation. Truman's journey to uncover the artificial nature of his existence and break free from his imposed confines is a timeless allegory about the human desire for truth. The film asks profound questions. Is a life of blissful ignorance preferable to confronting the harsh realities of the world? Is free will an illusion? Or can Truman break the carefully constructed shackles of his existence? Ultimately, the Truman show is a powerful exploration of the human spirit's yearning for freedom, even if it means stepping into the uncertain vastness beyond the studio walls. What film do you want us to explain next? [00:41:32] Speaker A: All right, so shout out to the AI Voice that was explaining the Truman show and then in one minute. But yeah, essentially the Truman show is about Guy Truman that was having his life filmed. This show came out in the late 90s, I want to say, and it was essentially very Orwellian in its nature. Right. So it was similar to the. And when I say Orwellian, I'm alluding to George Orwell, the author of the book 1984 and similar to that book, Whereas it's somewhat giving us a warning for our future if we continue the path that we travel in. So whenever people that study 1984 or have read 1984, they know that present day America is similar to what 1984 considered Oceania. All right? And Twitter or X Truth Social and stuff is exactly what news speak was in it. So just being frank as far as the 1984 connections, but whenever it comes to a lot of celebrities today, they fall victim to this Truman show effect. And I had to talk about it just a lot of our people as well. And I wanted to bring this up with y' all and go over a list of people that I feel like have. Have fell into that Truman show effect or has that. But first, what is the effect itself? I would say it's because in the. In the movie, Truman wasn't someone that. That thirsted for fame or was looking for attention all the time and everything like that. He was by default born into this world. It was real. Similar to that movie that came out maybe close to a year ago or so where there was a fake son. And I forget. I feel like Sterling K. Brown was in that movie. But y' all help me out with that. But yeah, it's very similar to that movie with the Truman Show. And at the end, he realizes it's all a simulation. Simulation. He's looking to get how to break out of the simulation, break free from it. But he has to overcome his fear of water where it's. Everybody inside of his world is an actor, essentially. So the Truman show gets real deep. But there's to me, very. So many similarities in today's world. In today's world of streaming and reality tv, where we see a bunch of Trumans around. So some that have fell victim to being Trumans later on in life, like after they've caught in a little bug of fame for a little bit or caught in a little bit of notoriety. But I'm gonna just. Okay, my queen's sistering Nicki Minaj. Okay, you're right there with the Trumans. Okay. Nikki Truman or whatnot. Her recent. Her recent. Her recent things that she's in the news for, in other words, is showing that we'll do anything to stay in front of the camera. She was just. She's talking about the Christians in Nigerian in Nigeria. And we were just spewing all these hateful things with regards to Cardi B's children and family, you know, not more than a couple of months ago. So I'm done with it. Yeah, I don't even. That's not even my ministry over there. But Ray J. Brother, you just step to the front real quick. Ray J. Truman, you've fallen victim to it too, my brother. All right, Everything is not for the camera. He most recently has been arrested after having a back and forth with his estranged wife. I want to say allegedly, I'm not sure, but Princess Love Princess, he had. They had a back and forth for altercation when she tried to remove the children from his house while he alleged that she was drunk and the people that she was with were drunk. He didn't want them driving with the children. So he ended up getting arrested. But prior to that, just a week or so prior to he was in the headlines for all the wrong reasons because he was at a Mario and wale show in D.C. area or in Baltimore and they didn't allow him to get up on stage to sing a song. And he was super mad or super upset at that and resulted to name calling and insults and talking about money and stuff. So let's remember, y', all, that some people are so poor, all they have is their money. All right? But with Ray J, I pray for him because the decline, it's not the decline is evident, but there is a thirst or like these people feel like that content creation or putting my face in front of the camera is going to turn into automatic dollars. And they're selling for cheaps, man. They're selling for cheaps. They're doing the wildest things. These, these things are going to live on the Internet forever. Your children will grow up one day and be able to see all of this stuff. All right, Ray J, I don't even know. I'm curious to know how Brandy feels about a lot of this stuff and the antics that Ray J's pulling and stuff. Stomach out, he's. He's become a caricature of himself. So whenever he's on like a K to the world streaming, he asking to get into the shower with a 20 something year old, 20 year old man, Young man like, Bruh. That's not weird to you? Ray J. I know Ray J's got to be early 40s, mid-40s, and I'll call it comedy or not, but very low hanging fruit. That's a whole nother episode for me though, with comedians playing around with homosexuality and stuff like that and feeling like that's funny or non comedians. Because in this situation or in this case, Ray J is not a comedian. So Ray J is one. The game is another. The game. He looking for the attention at any cost. He doesn't care. He's known or notorious. Liar. Like, that's a crazy thing to have on somebody's jacket and to just go with it. You got to go through life. You know that. So the game, he's definitely on the list. And while we're there on the west coast, I'll throw Whack 100 in there too. Whack 100 is always looking for a contrarian point of view to say. And he's for whatever reason, in too many people's business as far as with paperwork and knowing people's information, then recording phone calls and looking to expose people. He's definitely a victim of the Internet and that eye if you will. So the other funny thing is, like this light fixture in the Truman show falls and it breaks and it says serious on it. Like, serious as in S I R I, you like the star. And just thinking about the iPhones personal assistant, that name. But then also thinking about the radio station and just, you know, I'd be connecting stuff in my head that sometimes don't need to be connected. However, let me know if y' all get what I'm talking about. As far as some of these celebrities and them falling victim to the Truman show effect, if you will. You know, whether it's actors, entertainers, social media people, definitely streamers in the streaming community, I see a lot of them looking to do the most and just to keep the engagement going and to keep the attention on them. And that's when that's truly the goal. At the end of the day, they're looking to keep the attention on them. So Tekashi Truman, academics, Truman all. All of these people, I consider, you know, victims of that Truman effect. And, you know, we're gonna just watch. Watch this show play out. All of us are. All of us are in the audience of these people's stages if we choose to tune in and consume their content. But it. It's fame over everything for these people. A lot of these people need real friends or people around you to be like, just to straight just say, you bugging, you know, you wiling, you bugging. Chill, put the phone down. You know, I don't know. It seemed like Meek was going in that direction at one point. And they'll always still pop out and he'll do a random post that doesn't. You know, that doesn't help. Right? And then who else? Jim Jones. I feel like he was. He's still a glutton for attention, but I think that he's. He's kind of held back and brotherly love to Jim Jones in the let's Rap about it podcast as well. Let me see. That's Dave East Maino, Jim Jones, and fabulous Shout out to those brothers. They podcast is pretty entertaining. I was listening to it to. Listening to it the other day. So shout out to let's rap about it and brotherly love to them boys. But I feel like Jim, he no longer engages too, too much. I think he's seen a lot of that backlash this past year and dealing with it all the time. It wasn't something that he was enjoying. Let's just say that these are the Trumans. Let me know what y' all think about. About that whole theory itself. And have y' all seen the Truman Show? The movie itself, what do y' all think of it? If you look at a lot of Jim Carrey's interviews post the Truman show, that's when he started getting real. I'm not even gonna, I ain't gonna go to the Gong. But that's when he started to express, you know, hey, this stuff means nothing, you know, and putting up his hand signals. Yeah, those had a lot of late night show hosts very nervous whenever they were interviewing him because it seemed unpredictable on what he was going to say or do at times. And again, this is somebody who had to, you know, Jim Carrey is somewhat of a method actor. He gets into his role. So I know that Truman show, filming that and performing, it was exhausting for him. So salute to Jim Carrey, of course, with phenomenal job that he did on the Truman Show. But let me know you guys thoughts. Let me know if y' all seen the Truman show, how y' all feel like it correlates to today's society and what's going on today. If you haven't seen the Truman show, maybe check it out and then come back to us with your thoughts and everything like that. Again, you can email us at mandatory OT740 or you can give us a call here, 704-781-7011. But we're going to go ahead and move forward. So this part of the show I wanted to take some time. First of all, I wanted to go ahead and play this clip real quick from Lou Young is a real sign of real friendship right here though. He's having a conversation with his co host Beelin. But again, but if you ever seen their podcast, you could tell that they've got history and they're cool thickest thieves. History meaning platonically. You could tell that they got a great brother, sister relationship. But let me go ahead and play this clip for y' all real quick. [00:54:08] Speaker B: How you been? How you feeling? How you living? Talk to us. [00:54:12] Speaker E: I'm blessed. Just lost my second granddad eight months apart from my last granddaddy, my dad's dad. But eight months ago, you know, I lost my mom's dad. [00:54:22] Speaker B: R.I.P. [00:54:23] Speaker E: Yeah. R.P. [00:54:24] Speaker A: To my granddad. [00:54:25] Speaker B: How you feeling? [00:54:26] Speaker E: I'm, I'm okay. I'm just in the season of when he was in the hospital and this is very hard to do as a prayer, but just say, God, let your will be done. You know, I didn't really pray for healing or, you know, I just said, God Let your will be done. I mean, if it's your will for him to stay, let him stay. If it's meant for him to go, let him go. Because I mean, I want my granddaddy to suffer. So. [00:54:49] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:54:49] Speaker E: And I guess it was his will for him to go. So we just. [00:54:52] Speaker B: And then by happening. Going into the holidays and stuff like that, the timing be off. [00:54:59] Speaker E: Yeah. Because last Christmas was your first Christmas without your name, right? [00:55:03] Speaker B: My nana. Cause even like Thanksgiving, you know what I mean? Like I would go home with the family, with her and that's her thing, all the holidays and stuff. So I'm kind of like numb to the holiday season right now. I ain't really thinking too much about it or I'm just. Maybe I'm just working through it. [00:55:22] Speaker E: That's your answer for a lot of stuff. You gonna work through stuff and you gonna go to the gym. So you don't really. [00:55:28] Speaker B: And I've been in that motherfucker like a goddamn. Yeah, I'm talking about. You was the. I was a crackhead. [00:55:33] Speaker E: Yeah, I know you gonna. That's how you cope with your things. [00:55:39] Speaker B: And it's like. It makes sense. Cause they be creeping up and I'd be like, huh? And then it's like, okay, that's what it was. That's what it. I was like. I really didn't realize Thanksgiving was tomorrow until I just said it today at the gym. I'm like, oh, okay. That's why I've been. I gotta work. [00:55:56] Speaker E: And that's good. But sometimes you got to sit and just kind of sometimes sit in your feelings. You ain't got to stay there. But it's kind of good to kind of sit with it sometimes. [00:56:05] Speaker B: I have an issue with that. But I'm trying to, you know, kind of incorporate that in my. In my life. [00:56:12] Speaker E: Yeah. [00:56:13] Speaker B: You know, I mean. Cuz it is cool to sit in it sometimes. [00:56:16] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:56:17] Speaker B: In it. [00:56:18] Speaker E: Yeah. [00:56:18] Speaker B: You know what I mean? [00:56:19] Speaker E: Good at masking it. [00:56:21] Speaker B: Yeah. But the. [00:56:22] Speaker E: So you think sometimes your family can tell like when some bothering. You can do all the working and working out. You can. But people that's close to you will. [00:56:31] Speaker B: Know some saying likewise. I mean vice versa. You got to know your people. [00:56:36] Speaker E: Yeah, that's it. [00:56:37] Speaker B: You got to know your people. And you got to check on your people. [00:56:39] Speaker E: Yep. [00:56:39] Speaker B: And know how to check on them too. [00:56:44] Speaker A: So big just brotherly love and love to be Lynn as well. But brotherly love to Lou Young for them for having that conversation, you know, suffering losses and things like that. This is a conversation That I was pushing back towards the end of the show, and I didn't want to do that like that. But it's a tough conversation. It's a tough time of the year for a lot of people. Although it's a time of celebration for. For a lot of people. So the other random thought that I wanted to bring up with y' all is a little morbid, and I've been holding off on a few weeks from sharing this random thought. Let me see how I have it written down exactly. But it essentially is saying that there are pictures or photographs that we have where it was the last photograph that we had with a person before, you know, before they transitioned. So the random thought was more or less. Do you remember any pictures with anyone where that was the last picture that y' all took before they transitioned? Not necessarily. It was like, right before they transitioned, but just in general. Last time that you saw the person and that you were with them and taking a picture, and it just had me thinking. Like I said, it's a random, random, random thought. But, you know, is. I hate to say it's like musical chairs or like the end of the movie life where people vanish, but he's taking a picture. You know, it's a 50, 50 chance that it's you or them that'll be the last person standing, so to speak. I don't know how to say that really, without sounding, you know, insensitive, but, yeah, it's simply a random thought of mine, you know. And again, when we talking about this time of the year for Thanksgiving and Christmas, how many people, like, gotta switch the routine of who's cooking and stuff like that whenever we lose our elders and things like that. So, again, just wanted to show those people love, let them know that we thinking about them and stuff like that. One of the comments in the Lou Young video was saying, grandma's house ain't the same. They ain't lying. You ain't lying. Grandma house ain't never been the same, stuff like that. So, you know, sending out some compassion and some love, that's all. Yeah. Been seeing this music here on Instagram a whole lot. And whenever I hear this song, y', all, I already know the clip is about to get me teary eyed, you know what I'm saying? But I just wanted to pay respect and show love and let everyone that's going through Thanksgiving without a loved one, significant loved one, let y' all know that we're thinking about y'. All. Thinking about child. Yeah. Trying to stay strong. [00:59:57] Speaker B: But. [01:00:01] Speaker A: I definitely Miss my grandmother, definitely. It's August. Well, really July, like, around my birthday. So that we lost her. So this is our first holiday without her. It's tough. My cousin Cynthia as well. Rest. Rest in peace to my cousin Cynthia. Rest in peace to my brother, Keith Wirtz. Love, be loved. Father, brother, son, and all of that. Salute to my brother. Hold on, hold on. Let me play this music, y'. All. Cause can't catch me slipping like that. I do want to be vulnerable with y', all, though, because. Hurts, man. Hurts, You know? So. If you can speak to your people, make sure that you do. So I didn't know. I didn't know who. Excuse me, but I know he's going to take this turn. But if you speak to your people, you know, speak to them, hug them, all of that, let them know that you love them. You know what I'm saying? And again, this. I'm probably hurting more for the people that gotta go through this stuff, you know, with a parent or, you know, not having a parent or a child for the first time this holiday season. So that's. That's where the emotions is coming from, y'. All. So y' all forgive me, but, you know, holiday depression is real, so just remember those around this time, you know? You know, and again, we just pay respects to the ancestors that have transitioned or whatnot. This part of the episode will probably be real cut up or edited. Not. Not too much edited. But yeah, Yeah, I wanted to end this episode this week in a vulnerable space to let y' all know. It's. That grieving process is an ongoing thing. You know, you think that it's gone and then got something to remind you and all of that stuff. So, yeah, this is this therapeutic. Therapeutic, man. This is very therapeutic for me. So I appreciate y' all for kicking it with your boy. You know, I really do appreciate y' all for that. Wanted to show some brotherly love this week. Again, brotherly love to my brother, Dr. JB. Brotherly love to everybody that actually left a voicemail from me to you. I really appreciate y' all. A voice note. So starting off with Sock, we had DJ GQ leave a voice note. My man Kendall. Shout out to Kendall for leaving a voice note. Fat boy Patriot Patty leaving a voice note. I appreciate you, of course, Reb leaving a voice note. And, yeah, man, I appreciate y' all more than y', all, more than you can ever realize. One other thing that I saw about gratitude this week is that as much as you deliver, receiving gratitude is also good for you. And good for you, your health and stuff as well. So when people are telling you, thank you, man, just. I mean, telling you how much they appreciate you and stuff like that, just. Just take it and accept it. You know what I'm saying? You know, do your thing and make sure you do that. But in addition to that, though, brotherly love to my brother Carlos. Celebrating a birthday tomorrow. Shout out to you, Los. Who else? A brotherly love to the crew, of course. Fat Boy, Old man Q, Mix Master T. Shout out to all young. Shout out to Alan at Eddie's place. My man Heisenberg. Yeah. Brotherly love to all of the cues, Lambda Sigma, of course. I don't want to forget anyone and leave anyone out, but y' all know what time it is, man. But with that being said, this is with supreme faith that's in God. I'm gonna lead us with a prayer that's straight from the heart. May the ego and the hubris never break us apart. And from one brother to another, if nobody ever told you before, I love you. All right. Appreciate y'. All. Yo, thank you again for listening to mandatory overtime. Peace. Hey, everybody, it's closing time. You don't gotta go home, but you can't stay in. Closing time. Do the knowledge Nigga, I know you gonna dig this Molly got that bunch of gronk Mama got that bunch of crunch game.
