Episode Transcript
[00:00:03] Y Yo, what up, bro? Y' all stand for O.T.
[00:00:09] yeah. Nah, get that bread, bro. Y' all gotta stay for O.T.
[00:00:16] listen up, workers. Overtime is mandatory this weekend. No excuses.
[00:00:23] Let me work.
[00:00:25] Please let me work. Let me work.
[00:00:28] Please let me.
[00:00:38] Omega Sci Fi fraternity Greta the tittle tattle prattled on about the little metal bottle she spat a bit of spittle on the modern brittle cattle in a bitter battle. Hey, hey. Stop questioning my methods, okay? I was chosen for this task for a very good reason. No, chose yourself.
[00:01:05] Bang, bang, bang. Shit like that for a while now. About time we jump your punk ass in. That's right. Let me tell you something. In this world, if you can't swim, you found the drizzle. Yeah.
[00:01:18] And if you fall, you better pick your punk ass up. That's right.
[00:01:25] And the rest of y' all got.
[00:01:28] Don't cut him no slack.
[00:01:31] Y' all fools get busy.
[00:01:34] Let's go. Working dog. Working.
[00:01:53] He's got to get out the gate.
[00:01:56] Get out the game, Yer. What's going on? What's going on, everybody? What's happening? What's happening? Welcome to another episode of Mandatory Overtime. I'm your main man, DJ Highstar, here with another episode here at Mandatory Overtime. The aim, of course, is for us to recalibrate manhood in our community. And that's what each conversation that community that consists of you all. So I appreciate you guys being here. Of course, first and foremost is simply an audio Journal of the 80s, baby. A social experiment, inconsistency, if you will, could have been anywhere in the world. But you're here listening to me still.
[00:02:43] And I appreciate that.
[00:02:46] Thank you, thank you, thank you. Don't confuse this with the manosphere. It's just a place where the man is fair. So pull up a chair like comment, subscribe, share, but most importantly, make some noise, y'. All. Cause your main man is here. You heard.
[00:03:03] Reporting live from Charlotte, America. What's happening, y'? All? 704980. All of that.
[00:03:13] Also, shout out to the Russian sound engineer. I got in a check, one, two.
[00:03:20] A check one, two.
[00:03:23] Bang, bang. Like that sound good?
[00:03:26] Let's go to work. You heard. What's up with y', all, man?
[00:03:30] Let's get straight to it. I know. So last week, some revisions that I may have to come with a little later or whatnot, but salute to last week's episode. I was.
[00:03:45] I appreciate you, man. Had the new join in there.
[00:03:51] There's some things about like Tulsi Gabbert and some of these officials or people that are holding office that I do want to be more accurate on with y' all and delivering who these people are, what they're in charge of, so you'll have a clearer picture of what's going on whenever it does go down. But of course, more corruption, more Divided States of America type of vibes going on this past week.
[00:04:20] But we're gonna control what we can control. And so, yeah, that's to the. The handling of. Of everything going on with the US and all. All of its foreign affairs right now. But like I said, we're gonna control what we can control on this end, you heard? And yeah, we. That's pretty much what I got to say about that.
[00:04:45] Again, I'm trying to maintain my.
[00:04:49] My piece, if you will, with regards to that early brotherly love, though. And salute to everybody that gave feedback. It seems that the classical high star bars will be a segment that we keep around or whatnot. So salute.
[00:05:05] We got another installment of that this week, so stay tuned. Definitely, Always. Definitely. Feel free to rap along or, you know, with the. With the rhymes. But also, you feel free to email us at mandatoryot704gmail.com mandatoryot704gmail.com to make sure that we hear from you. If you got any suggestions for any songs that you want to hear or sonnets stanzas that you like to hear during classical high star bars, go ahead and drop that definitely. But we wouldn't, you know, look no further or whatnot.
[00:05:48] Let's go ahead and let me work.
[00:05:51] Please. Let me work.
[00:05:52] All right, so we're gonna go ahead and start off with our first segment, of course, what's today's mathematics? Yo, no disrespect, but we ain't in all of that, son. Build, destroy the builders. To elevate the mentalities of self and those around self, to add positive energy to every nation. To build, you must first start from the root, which is the knowledge foundation, and add on to the highest peak. To destroy is to eliminate and destroy any and all negativity that enters my cipher of supreme harmony.
[00:06:19] Peace, God. Peace, God. Come on, son.
[00:06:24] Do the knowledge. I know you going to dig this. All right, so salute to fat boy.
[00:06:32] First and foremost, I'm gonna merge in the email with building wisdom, because he put some wisdom in his email.
[00:06:39] But first we will go to cousin Jerome dropping that wisdom.
[00:06:45] Now, mind y', all, Cousin Jerome is Howard University alumni, okay? So he definitely just dropped a message into the chat that just simply says, go Bison.
[00:06:57] Like, you know, so shout out to Howard. But let's see here. From the last time that we've gone through some wisdom.
[00:07:09] All right? If I'm not for myself, who will be for me? If I'm only for myself, what am I? And if not now, when?
[00:07:20] That's unknown, but has some depth to it. So certainly. Let's see here. Some Monday motivation from this past week is from Bobby Knight on behalf of cousin Jerome. It reads, most people have the will to win.
[00:07:36] Few have the will to prepare to win by Bobby Knight.
[00:07:41] This is deep. That's deep.
[00:07:44] Let's see here.
[00:07:46] Wanted to find some.
[00:07:48] See if I got any from Taz.
[00:07:51] Brother Taz, you don't need to know how. You just need to ask. Be grateful and believe in your dreams.
[00:07:58] All right? Centered around faith. I love that one. It's tough.
[00:08:03] Let's see here.
[00:08:05] All right, so outside of that, wanted to.
[00:08:10] Like I said, we're gonna move forward into the email because Fatboy did write us an email, but he has some. Some wisdom that he did share and put in there. So I'm gonna go straight to that and open up that email, y'. All. So y', all, can.
[00:08:27] I can get that? Let's see.
[00:08:31] All right, here we go.
[00:08:36] The email's titled poker Monday.
[00:08:40] It says, peace, High star, mandatory ot Positive affirmation.
[00:08:47] Your energy introduces you before you speak.
[00:08:50] All right, that one's tough.
[00:08:54] And also, the universe never says no. It says, not yet. Or something better.
[00:09:01] Absolutely.
[00:09:03] And then he says, which leads me to Poker Monday. I don't speak much on poker because I hardly win.
[00:09:10] Shut your ass up.
[00:09:12] Which leads me to poke. Which leads me to this, which. Okay, I gotta read this part again, y', all, because.
[00:09:20] Hold on. Let's see here.
[00:09:23] All right, which leads me to Poker Monday. I don't speak much on poker because I hardly win.
[00:09:34] Which leads me to this, the positive message above.
[00:09:39] Shout out to my boy Q for buying in twice.
[00:09:44] So shout out to you Q.
[00:09:47] And let's see here. Salute. Of course, it don't show nothing. It don't cost nothing to show A. I was doing this game showing some love.
[00:10:01] All right, so definitely shout out to Fat Boy. Peace, fat Boy. For the.
[00:10:06] For the email. Absolutely. If y' all would like to definitely email the show. Mandatory ot704gmail.com. Again, mandatory ot704gmail.com. But also, you can call the hotline at 704-781-7011 and leave a message. 704-781-7011. We'd be more than happy to hear from you and play your message on air.
[00:10:32] But yes. So again, going through those positive affirmations, your energy introduces you before you speak. I definitely agree with that. Any room that you walk into, just be mindful of your non verbal signals and communication that you're giving off. Also, the universe never says no, it says not yet or something better. I love that as well.
[00:10:55] It kind of reminds me or it does remind me of when a Jay Z's favorite lines and stuff whenever he's interviewing with folks and he's like, life doesn't happen to you, it happens for you. So you know, every event in life is.
[00:11:12] It's really a cultural event that's, that's divine and it happens for you. It doesn't happen to you. You know, so say you got to think about that. You, life really happens for us, not to us. Right?
[00:11:26] So, yeah, anywho, we're gonna get to Sean Carter in a little bit, but shout out and salute again to Fat Boy for the, for the email. I appreciate you my way. Appreciate you, my bad. And he kind of listen, playing poker games out here with the emails because the other week, if y' all remember, be easy. He, yeah, man, how much? What's the most you don't want in poker? And all of that light, you know, passive aggressive flexing. And then here go Fat Boy talking about some.
[00:11:59] I don't speak on poker much because I hardly win.
[00:12:04] Shut your ass up, man.
[00:12:07] Yo, so I will say this, y', all, I did not bring up poker last week. Poker in Fort Meadow, South Carolina. And I did go down there.
[00:12:17] I, I fared out again, fairly well, about the same as far as making it to, made it to a combined table, but also made it to like, I think 400 blind, 200, 400 or 400, 800 blind, something like that. So it was, that was, that was pretty decent. It was good.
[00:12:37] But no, no, no, I actually made it to like 501k. But nevertheless, fat Boy, he did win last Monday, certainly. And so me not bringing up poker last week on the show, it looked, it looked the type of way with the, with my inner circle, like the, the poker crowd that we playing.
[00:12:59] So I did want to acknowledge. Shout out to Fat Boy. And I will say this also, I have refined my trash talk with poker because, like, you play with a crew of folks that know how to play pretty well or whatever, you're not guaranteed to win every week. Of course, I'll just say that the winning can go all around, right? Everybody can win. So I just try to tether it off. I don't try to put my emotions apart of the trash talk and everything. If I, If I gotta lose, then I gotta lose.
[00:13:35] You know what I'm saying?
[00:13:37] I just gotta take my L's, lick my wounds, keep it moving or whatnot.
[00:13:42] And then if I win, hey, I just, Just try to be humble. Just be humble. Show some humility. That's all. That's all. But yeah, I'll be headed down to Fort Mill, South Carolina, this evening so I can give y' all a heads up or update next week whenever I, Whenever we record once again. But salute again. Shout out to fat boy on the email, yo, I appreciate that. My way. I appreciate that. My bad.
[00:14:09] So let's see here. I wanted to go ahead and move forward with a couple things.
[00:14:14] Oh, I do have some random. Before we get to the classical high style bars of the week, I have random things that were heard on the work floor. This is real life.
[00:14:26] I don't want to. Yeah, it, man. I don't care.
[00:14:29] This was a manager talking, all right, under his. Not under his breath, but he was talking on his phone. I don't know if he know that I was around in listening distance, but he gonna talk about some.
[00:14:43] I done told you, when we out here, don't call my personal phone. Call my work phone. All right, I'm right behind you.
[00:14:54] Yes, y', all, the manager. This is what he. This is what the gentleman say. This is what he's saying on his. On his cell phone, cellular device.
[00:15:05] I'll repeat it one more time.
[00:15:08] And I told you, when we out here, don't call me on my personal phone. Call my work phone.
[00:15:15] Look, I'm right behind you.
[00:15:20] Y' all know, I did the investigating, too, to see what or who he was creeping with or talking about, so to speak.
[00:15:27] And older woman, there's a younger guy who. Older woman, anybody that knows where I work at or works with me, hit me up on the side and I'll give you the further details. But that was definitely real things heard on the work floor. All right, we're gonna go ahead and move right along, though.
[00:15:46] Real things hurt on the workflow. Y' all out for lunch segment this week real quick before I get to the classical high star bars, salute to Eddie's place, y'. All. All right. Salute. Salute to Eddie. So I've been to Eddie's place, like probably three or four times in the past month, but definitely twice in the past weekend or since the weekend. And this past, I normally go for the breakfast and get some Type of breakfast items that are similar to like any midnight diner, Waffle house or whatnot.
[00:16:15] Yesterday I went and got lunch. Got a turkey burger vibe with the little hand cut fries and stuff.
[00:16:23] Join with slamming. All right, I'm gonna just keep it at that. Keep it short and sweet this week. Shout out to Eddie's place for the lunch yesterday and for the for the turkey burger vibes. Appreciate y'. All. Thank you.
[00:16:35] Thank you.
[00:16:36] All right, let's go ahead and prepare from one of my new favorite segments though.
[00:16:43] This week's classical High Star bar segment.
[00:16:49] Give me one second.
[00:16:53] This week's work comes from the school of Bad Boy.
[00:17:00] It is a work of art called Mo Money, Mo Problems. We'll be reading from the third stanza. The song is from a 1997 hit which signified a coming out to a crossover audience, if you will.
[00:17:20] It was released posthumously and the poet laureate Christopher Wallace, better known as Notorious B.I.G.
[00:17:33] states.
[00:17:46] B I G P O R PPA no info for the DEA federal agents mad cause I'm flagrant tap my cell and the phone in the basement my team supreme stay clean triple lyrical dream I be that catch you see that all events bent gats in holsters girls on shoulders playboy I told told you mere mics to me bruise too much, I lose too much Step on stage the girls boo too much I guess it's cause you run with lame dudes too much me lose my touch never that if I did ain't no problem to get the where the true play is at Throw your rollies in the sky wave em side to side and keep your hands high while I give your girl the eye Player please Lyric Lee C, Big B flossing jig on the COVID of Fortune 5 double O here's my phone number your man ain't got to know I got the dough got the flow down pizzat platinum plus like thizat dangerous on Trizac leave your flizat and then in comes the chorus.
[00:19:15] Like to thank notorious BG School of Bad Boy for that classic from 1997.
[00:19:26] But we shall continue on y'. All.
[00:19:30] Salute again to Bad Boy in that track. It's one of my favorite tracks.
[00:19:37] Okay, we gotta move forward, y'. All. Let's see here what we moving forward with this week because I got a couple things to talk about.
[00:19:45] LaRusso, you inspired. Let me just say this. Yeah. You inspire some conversations this week, of course. And then I don't like particularly your reaction to it.
[00:19:58] I say that prayer at the end of every episode for a reason. And I feel like it's very important to understand, again, we don't want the ego nor the hubris to tear us apart. A lot of times that is the primary reason of.
[00:20:14] Of a lot of things. A lot of toxic or negative things going awry and stuff like that. It's just hubris. Too much pride, you know, too much ego. And I feel like a lot of times when people talk to you, you should listen. I hate the culture nowadays where we dismiss people that are online as just talking bots or dummies, for lack of better terms. You know what I mean?
[00:20:43] You could just write them off. Yo, I didn't believe y' all could be this stupid, but, yo, y' all are this stupid, though. Like, who you talking to? Though who you. Who you talking to? So he started to add that kind of tone, that condescending type of tone that creators and things will have where they, like, look, well, I've done this, and I haven't seen you guys outside, but I've been doing this like, bro, shut the bro. Seriously, on that type of time, that. That gets judgmental and that gets elitist and stuff like that. It comes off elitist. And, you know, I was riding with people, like, the wrestling up until that point. Like, bro, don't allow the fame, the newfound fame and stuff to get to your head again. There's a reason why it comes with a lot of responsibilities and stuff, and, you know, you got to display that.
[00:21:33] So, yeah, I'm still kind of disappointed with. With him managing that, but he's still dealing with it. I guess he's shut down his social media and stuff like that, and. And social media is doing what it does. I. I can't lie. There is a little guilty pleasure that I. That I get paused whenever somebody is, you know, when. When the hate train is online and really. And people showing their true hate colors against, you know, against celebrities. I can't. I don't. I don't know. I'm being real, though. I'm being real. Yo, but let's move forward real quick, because I don't really have too much to say on the Russell in that situation. I just don't like the way that he handled it post controversy or has been handling it post controversy. Wanted to get into this real quick. Conspiracy theories.
[00:22:18] All right. Because I feel like a conspiracy theorist. We're up a little bit, and we got some bragging rights, you know, so every couple of weeks or whatnot, it feels too bizarre or anything like that for me to say I'm gonna bring it straight to the show, and we're going to talk about it.
[00:22:34] All right, so what are we going to talk about this week?
[00:22:37] Quickly?
[00:22:41] Pollen.
[00:22:42] All right, let's just get straight to it. The pollen got cars out here looking like tennis balls.
[00:22:50] You. It's just a different level nowadays. It's just a different level. We got to be honest, y'. All. It's a different level. So let's get to the conspiracy theorist brain, if you will.
[00:23:02] And I'm triangulating a lot of information and salute to Reb. I think you one of the primary sources probably of this info from triangulating sources. And I've.
[00:23:17] I have deduced, concluded it is my conjecture that the.
[00:23:24] The pollen is a result of us not having enough female trees around for the male trees to pollinate. Simply. Simply put, or. Or however that science goes. You know, I don't want to sound ignorant whenever it comes to the bees part into that whole situation, but, yeah, I think a pollen is dropping a lot of places because they don't have. We don't got trees no more out here, y'. All. Let's really think about that.
[00:23:49] There are trees, but there's not trees out here no more. Like my grandmother neighborhood growing up, the trees draped the house. You know what I'm saying? You had a bunch of trees and stuff. The weather wasn't super. Well, I'll put it like this. There's one.
[00:24:05] The trees were sturdy. We had big, big trees.
[00:24:08] But also the weather wasn't wild. And all of this harp made up genetically modified weather going on now to where trees is just flying off, branches are flying everywhere. And it's my conjecture, once again, the trees are weaker nowadays. You know, you got your little hoa trees that they'll plant in front of a house when they first start up the plot and stuff like that or whatever. But so the combination of that and weather, of whatever's going on with the weather, yeah, them trees is flying off, damaging whatever, whenever they falling during these storms and stuff like that. But better yet, during allergy season, that pollen come and that neon green. Bye. And neon green ain't no joke.
[00:24:57] It's like, come on, we can't catch a break.
[00:25:00] I caught the little sniffles the other week because of the weather change. But then my. All of my people out here with spring allergies, they got to deal with that now.
[00:25:08] So, yeah, man, y', all, y' all stay strong. Hold your head. Keep your head up with all of that. I just did want to bring up that conspiracy theory because I Know us conspiracy theorists. We're up. So we got a couple that, you know, you could go ahead and let. Let a couple of conspiracies fly if you want to.
[00:25:28] I just had this written down. It's a random thought. True. And salute to our segment. Our age old segment. Random thoughts. But tech in Asia.
[00:25:37] All right. Why the hell in Japan, China, all of that. Korea?
[00:25:44] Why is the technology fire.
[00:25:49] Put it technology fire. Over there, they got a little robots that do the right thing. Robots dispense hand sanitizer, and robots can help you dispose of baby diapers or woman products in the bathroom and stuff like that, or bring you your food over here. We trying to build drones and robots to blow up schools in the Middle East. The is wrong with us.
[00:26:15] It's quiet. Right?
[00:26:19] Heard you.
[00:26:21] But yeah, what's wrong with us, man?
[00:26:25] So those are my two.
[00:26:27] Yeah, the tech in Asia, man. Tech in Asia. I don't know why our tax dollars got to go to wars and all of this other stuff. We could barely get food stamps and SNAP or assistance out here. And other people are out there living in 2075.
[00:26:45] All right.
[00:26:46] It's annoying. Anywho, let's go ahead and move forward, man.
[00:26:51] All right, I got.
[00:26:54] I have salute to Mama D from my church. She just texted me in real time, so have to text her back. But yeah, salute to her.
[00:27:05] I have a question here for the community.
[00:27:09] I know whether to bring this up before. After we talk about Sean Carter.
[00:27:14] Sean Carter, boy, harder. All right, so let's talk. Well, I'll keep it, Keep it light, keep it simple.
[00:27:21] All right. Salute to Jay Z. He announced that he's going to be performing. Well, it was announced he's performing. Performing at the Roots Picnic. And then he followed that with an announcement for two shows that he's doing in Yankee Stadium. I've had people call me, you know, are we trying to do this? We trying to make it up there? You know my answer this year? Unfortunately, I can't do it. All right. The answer is no for me.
[00:27:45] All right, salute though, to everybody that got a little bit of chicken and all of that stuff. And you feel like, all right, cool. But me, I feel like I'm taking, getting, taking advantage of and assaulted by my government financially. And right now, I'm just not in position. All right? But I've seen a lot of conversations pop up because these shows that are at Yankee Stadium are themed to celebrate the anniversaries of Reasonable Doubt and Blueprint, I want to say, or Reasonable Doubt and Blueprint, which will probably be 20 and 25 years respectively apart or something along those lines, so. Or 25 and 30 years. Excuse me, 25 and 30 years.
[00:28:29] So certain people are arguing, yeah, I would go to this show and I would go to that show, and I would go to this show. It's like, yo, listen, y' all gotta understand, the Jay Z that y' all are fans of, people are going to be fans of different eras of this guy the same similar way that people are fans of different areas of Drake or whatnot. Jay Z's had the longevity in his career and put out timeless music across that career and spanned across that career. So, yes, there are people that were thriving in 96, that. That was a golden era for them. And they're gonna. They're gonna do anything that they can and make it to the Reasonable Doubt show. And then there's others that in Blueprint time, during Blueprint, they was older or they got older, they understood life a little bit more, and they enjoyed that, where that music put them at and in the place to put them, and they're going to enjoy that show. So I hate to see the argument online. Of course, I know it's trivial. It's. It's for content and stuff and fodder, but it's good. It's corny to me, yo, I hate it. So let's see here. I wanted to go ahead.
[00:29:38] Oh, yeah, and just.
[00:29:40] I saw the interview that he did. He had an interview earlier and I saw the interviews on GQ or with GQ. They released it on YouTube. It was cool interview. I just, I wanted to, you know, I wanted to remind the audience that, remember, mandatory overtime as well. So we may be looking at. I may give DJ High Star exclusive at any given point, but yeah, so salute to him.
[00:30:10] The black. The black capitalist strikes again. I don't know. I don't know. I'm. I'm not gonna say I'm off Jay Z, but it's cool. It's cool to hear from big bro. Cool.
[00:30:22] Outside of that, I'm cool. All right. Again, a lot of these black celebrities, especially Kevin Hart, to the world hoes, whatever, all these black successful, uber successful people, you know, especially the billionaires of the world and stuff like that, you know, I. Look, I don't know. I don't know, say the unpopular part out loud, but. Nah, I know you got to take care of your own and hold down your own. But again, is. Is capitalists a part of black liberation? Is capitalism a part of black liberation? Now, granted, he said a Lot of things in the interview. You know, I didn't invent the tax codes. I didn't. I didn't make up these laws and. And make illegal things legal. And taps, tax loopholes.
[00:31:05] Yeah, we know, but you use them, though. You use them, and I'm not even mad at you for using them, bro.
[00:31:12] But it's like, don't. You don't gotta appear holier than that. We know. Oh, I was just placed in this position and I. Yeah, we know. You worked hard, bro. You are super talented, my boy. But it. Two things can be true, you know what I'm saying? You are also aligned with wealthy people and with capitalists and stuff like that. And it's not that you signed up for any kind of black liberation, but, you know, I just. I don't gotta idolize you or deify you and stuff like that. Cool interview, bro. Cool, smooth. I appreciate you.
[00:31:43] You know what I mean? But, yeah, I don't know.
[00:31:47] I'm cool. Like, so, like I said, a lot of people nowadays, I just look at their words, and if the words are empty or a lot of empty calories, and I'm like, okay, what is the message in that? What were you really saying?
[00:32:00] You know what I mean? What do you really say now? And I'll give whole. Or Jay Z credit. He says some substance, substantive stuff in these interviews whenever he gives them. So I like a lot of the things that he brought up. Like, he's talking about, like, the Drake and Kendrick stuff and kind of ruling out why would he be even interested in kind of going back and forth or being involved with that? It's like, it doesn't. It doesn't serve him. It doesn't benefit him, which made a lot of sense as well.
[00:32:27] So I can understand that.
[00:32:30] Yeah. Salute.
[00:32:32] Or Jay Z, if you will.
[00:32:34] I could go on about the interview itself. Did y' all catch it, though? If y' all did, let me know what y' all thought about it. All right, Let me go ahead and move forward.
[00:32:44] At a question that I asked the fellas this week, I wanted to go ahead and pose it to the community.
[00:32:48] Do y' all see ourselves as Christian before black or black before Christian?
[00:32:56] Just a question.
[00:32:57] Just wanted to ask that. Oppose that to the community, you know, I'll just keep it short. And this is something that we'll build on with each episode and stuff like that as we get feedback. But I see myself black before Christian.
[00:33:12] It may require some further explanation and stuff in the weeks to come, but I'm gonna wait for the Engagement from the community as if you're black. Right. If you're white and you listen to the show, let me know. Do you consider yourself white before you're Christian or before. Before your religion, in other words? So if you have a different belief system other than Christianity, do you. You consider yourself, you know, a son or daughter of Islam before you are your color, creed, or. Or the other way around? So, yeah, just wanted to put that out there for some engagement. Was curious to know from others to give credit and brotherly love. I got that from Glasses Malone, so salute to Glasses. But I. I did get that idea from him, or that question, rather, during a conversation on Culture United last week. So I just wanted to pose that question out there to y' all as well.
[00:34:05] And I think that there's a lot of discourse going around the little Russell topic with regards, and I think it's tied to that a little bit. I want to play this.
[00:34:18] This is the Russell responding to the Internet trolls in the backlash. I want to play this, mind you. This is.
[00:34:25] Yeah. Independent artist Russell, and I believe he identifies as a. A Christian, a man of God, you know, most recent song and all of that. But let's listen to him real quick here. From putting in that work and marketing my art and putting it out to the world and showing all the dope things I do, and nobody who has a. Hold on. Let me start it one more time, y', all, man. I got here from putting in that work and marketing my art and putting it out to the world and showing all the dope things I do, and nobody who has a opinion on me negatively have done half of what I've done in my life and in my career and for my family. You know, I'm the first to ever do some of the things I'm doing. They're not the first to comment negative about it. You know, it's like, it's whatever. So I just kind of keep tracking, you know, it'll. You're gonna get bullets that hit your shield and some gonna pierce a little deeper, and it's like, ah, I gotta recover. But for the most part, it is what it is. It come with it.
[00:35:19] All right, so there's a majority of my issue with the brother right there and lack of humility. And then in the hubris shining through or whatnot, that ego shining through it. Let me just look this up real quick for y', all, for those of y' all that don't know what it is, but real quickly. I'm sorry.
[00:35:45] All right, so hubris Is is defined as an excessive pride, overbearing self confidence or arrogance often leading to a person's downfall. So this originates from a Greek tragedy like as far as the, the name or the word hubris. But nevertheless, that's what I'm alluding to always or referring to. And I don't want that to be the cause of anybody's downfall or us allowing the hubris to break us apart. As I, as I say in our prayer at the end of each episode. And the Russell for all, on all accounts is a great guy.
[00:36:23] But why result to insulting people or saying that people haven't done half as much as you just because they have an opinion on, on something you put out. You know, that art that you release to the world is open to criticism and critique.
[00:36:40] Everybody that criticizes, criticizes your work, is not a dummy or is not clueless and uninformed and stuff like that.
[00:36:49] And again, there was a saying that I had was like, excuse me, am I In my teens, I thought I knew everything. In my 20s I knew I knew everything.
[00:37:05] In my 30s, I realized I knew nothing.
[00:37:09] So forever, for whatever that's worth, you know, when we're in our 20s, especially toward our late 20s, about to see 30 years old, we feel like we know everything. Or I did, at least I thought I know everything. It ain't even that I think I know everything. I know everything. I know that I know it. And in my 30s that got flipped on his head and I realized I don't know anything at all. And I gotta, I, you know, I learned something new every day. In other words.
[00:37:37] So to, to bring him back full circle with LaRusso in the situation again, it's just his reaction to the criticism and his kind of his pride and his ego is speaking louder than any of his actions. You know, you end up saying stuff. It's very insulting to the people that have supported you thus far in, in all the way. And a lot of people, you know, contrary to popular belief, although it's accompanied with hate, a lot of people want to see you do well and not rooting for you, but you make it difficult to root for with that. So, you know, wanted to say my piece with that and be open about that.
[00:38:24] And so overall with.
[00:38:27] When it comes to black, let me say this first. Black Christianity is unique in itself, especially black Christianity in the Western world. It's unique in itself. And black spirituality in itself itself has a lot of different facets. But there's an element of black Christianity to me that's, that's Rooted in, excuse me, pardon me, a subconscious, like, elitist or like an elitist type of stance or a condescending stance. Like, if you don't believe what I believe, then you're not equal to me or almost. I hope I'm making sense when I say this. And that's. Again, this is back to our Christian before black or Black for Christian conversation. And there's just that element in black Christianity where I think, you know, some feel like, you know, I'm smarter than the rest or I'm better than the rest. And I say that being a part of that community and seeing it firsthand, and I just have to call it out. And again, I feel like I'm rooted in my blackness first. And that is accompanied with my spirituality or my religion and my beliefs as well. But the thing that I can't take off or remove is, is me being a black man.
[00:39:44] So that goes to. I think that that's contributed to my answer. I think we can all take positive things from different religions and we can take positive things from the teachings of Jesus Christ or extract positive things from things like the Quran or, you know, the, the Bible, all of that stuff. So, you know, me and the guys, we were talking about this again the other night.
[00:40:12] Although you can pull those things from it, it still has to be acknowledged what, what the identity of that belief system or religion is and what is the true identity of Christianity nowadays. Like, when we look at it, a Western world view of Christianity, what is the.
[00:40:32] What's the identity of it? You know, I believe that there are white radicalists, Christian radicalists, that have hijacked it, and they are committing terrorist acts in the name of Christianity as we speak.
[00:40:47] I also feel like there's black pacifists in our, in our, you know, in Christianity that allow for things like this to go by without saying anything. And we, if we share the same belief or that same label as Christians, some of this stuff should be being condemned. That's going. That's being put out in the name of Christianity. So, you know, it gets deep. It's a. It's a layer conversation. I would love to hear from you all. It's not going to be the end of the conversation as well.
[00:41:19] We definitely will dive deeper into this topic as the, as the engagement comes in, pours in, and as the weeks go on.
[00:41:28] So, again, are you black before Christian or Christian before black? That's assuming that you're black. All right, I don't want no d' Angelos out there.
[00:41:38] Okay. Proud boys to men or Anything like that. If you're white, you can stand in your whiteness, but are you white before you Christian? Are you Christian before you white? You know.
[00:41:48] Yeah, again, I just, it's just a curious question for me. If you're not Christian at all, are you son or daughter of Islam? Are you Jewish? Are you, you know, any of these other religions? Pride before your, you know what you are. So, anywho wanted to move forward, I got a chance to interview with GQ earlier this week.
[00:42:15] Nah. But to put a bow on that, the interview with GQ from Jay Z. I just, again, my views on black excellence or black capitalism has changed a lot in the recent years.
[00:42:36] Salute to everybody that's gotten their bag has gotten to a dollar shout out to y', all, especially if you've done it with integrity. Salute. However it, you know, I don't want to cloak it behind no black excellence or, yeah, black liberation or anything like that, because it's not. But anyways, again, salute to Jay. I know he's got a lot of things going on right now.
[00:43:03] Coming up, any of our, any of our artists right now that are performing this year, y' all gotta forgive me, but this is like third or fourth priority for me to go and see any of y' all perform live right now after what we got going on in the government or with the government and in the world, period. I'm not in no space to celebrate nobody's 30th or 25th anniversary for the album. Sue me. I don't know. You know what I'm saying?
[00:43:31] But yeah, I don't. I really could give a wrong button.
[00:43:38] I could give.
[00:43:40] So there's that. But salute to you, Jay.
[00:43:44] It's how he said what.
[00:43:46] In the interview, they're asking him about Kendrick and Drake, and he said, I mean, I'm Jay Zam. JC Ho.
[00:43:57] All right, bro. We get it.
[00:44:00] We know.
[00:44:01] Now, again, don't take this as me being at odds with Hoover or anything like that or Jay Z. It's just that our celebrities for the past decade or 20 years, 30 years, I don't know if we had the wrong expectations of them, that they was going to come and save us or something like that, but I've just watched all of these get rich and hey, that's fine, but enjoy your wealth, brother. I won't be donating $2,000 to you, to your tickets or ticket sales to.
[00:44:35] To see you perform.
[00:44:39] But speaking of performing, we got another High Star bars, classical High Star bar segment here before we get into our brotherly Love segment. So I'll go ahead and queue that up here for us.
[00:44:52] Give me one moment. All right, so this final segment of High Star bars comes from the school school of Trill.
[00:45:04] The poet laureate, Webby, or known as Lil Webby.
[00:45:11] This album is from Savage Life 3, track number 2.
