It's your main man, DJ High Star, here for another episode of Mandatory Overtime. Appreciate y' all joining me. Oh, appreciate y' all joining me, though. AIM here at Mandatory Overtime is for us to recalibrate and redefine manhood with one conversation at at a time within our community. That community that consists of you all, you know, simply an audio journal of an 80s, baby. A social experiment, inconsistency. You could have been anywhere in the world. But you're here listening to me. Here listening to this Knicks fan. You hear? Don't confuse this with the manosphere. It's just a place where the man is fair. So pull up a chair. Like comment, subscribe, share, engage. But make some noise, y'. [00:09:59] Speaker B: All. [00:09:59] Speaker A: Cause your main man is here. Reporting live from Charlotte, America. 704-980. What's happening? You heard? I got a Russian sound engineer over there in the cut. Not the Brooklyn Nets owner in A. Check 1, 2. Check 1, 2. Let's get to work, man. What's up, y'? All? What's going on, everybody? I hope everybody's day is a. Is a little bit bright. You know, I've been having a great week. Really. Coming off of the awesome parade yesterday, I wasn't there. I wasn't in attendance. However, I did view it right from stream or whatever, so I felt like I was there. I had my beer, I had my jersey. All right. It was just like I was there. Glad I wasn't there. I think we might get to that a little bit later. But I am happy that I was not around there. I didn't. I don't have enough bail money or what not to get back to Charlotte. So glad that I didn't make it up there. But if you been living under a rock, anything like that, salute to my Knicks man. The New York Knicks 2026 NBA champions. We won't go any further before we do that. It's the first brotherly love that we given for the episode today. Secondly, though, let's go into real quick into some revisions. I do want to touch upon a story of soon that we were discussing last week. So the Carmelo Anthony incident, no relation to the New York knit. Carmelo Anthony, okay, forever champion, stay mellow. But Carmelo Anthony with a K. That situation was giving my general thoughts on it last week, admittedly so. And just in general, I, you know, I don't. For the details of the incident. I didn't want to. I think I couldn't justify the 35 years from the details of the evidence that I received. And it's scary, of course, the press that or the way that the media works nowadays. And you got to be sensitive whenever you talk about these type of things. So the elements surrounding the whole thing to me just seem a little bit more gray than black and white, no pun intended. And the fact, of course, that the jewelry was all white. Of course. Well, not of course, but that's one factor. And then all of the witness accounts that they could receive would, in my opinion, be in favor of the Metcalfs because of, you know, they were under his school's tent. So all of the witness accounts would be from them. So there's a couple of things that are not so black and white, pun intended. And then also seeing the father respond. Metcalf father respond emotional. I know that he's emotional losing his son and stuff like that, but his true color showed during his response. So I just saw it from the outside as a more difficult situation to. To kind of break down, analyze, or give your opinion on. So, you know, I just want to take a step back with my. With my perspective on that isolated incident. There were things, I think, on both sides that could have been done, of course, to prevent the tragedy that occurred. However, speaking with Mixmaster T about this this past weekend, and I think a lot that contributes to what occurred there is. And I'm talking about things that we can control, and I'm not condemning or what do they call it? Like, convicting any black person right now or indicting any black person. I'm not doing any of that. But I'm just saying the way that we come up. One phrase that's kind of programmed into us is if someone puts their hands on you, you protect yourself, or somebody puts their hands on you, you know, you defend yourself. So with that phrase and that being programmed into us, I don't know if that is what Carmelo. You know, his viewpoint that he was coming from, regardless, like his. His perspective or his vantage. But again, when we're taught, you know, if you come in the house and you got beat up, you got to go back outside and keep fighting or. Or different ideas like that. I don't know what Carmelo's disposition, you know, was that day. If he felt truly felt threatened, if he just wanted shelter, then. If you speak with a lot of educators nowadays, you know, of course, they're the children that are in the school. They're not gonna say, you know, what's going on at home and things like that. So, again, this is not condemning or indicting anything, any black person in general or the Carmelo Anthony situation. I'm just kind of bringing conjecture to the whole thing and trying to look at it more nuanced, admittedly. So I can trust that our community here at mandatory overtime is. Is our community, if you know what I mean. But, you know, just, again, being sensitive about the whole situation, I still feel like the brother has been unfairly charged and overcharged. However, I don't think that he's absolved of everything. In other words, of, you know, of all wrongdoing. So that's. That's my revision on the Carmelo Anthony situation. Again, no relation to the New York Nick. Carmelo Anthony, But I had to. I had to go ahead and get that out there. So moving right along, let's go ahead. [00:16:26] Speaker B: What's today's mathematics, yo? No disrespect, but we ain't in all of that, son. Build, destroy, the builders to elevate the mentalities of self and those around self. To add positive energy to every nation. To build, you must first start from the root, which is the knowledge foundation. And I don't want to. The highest peak. To destroy is to eliminate and destroy any and all negativity that enters my cipher of supreme harmony. [00:16:50] Speaker A: Peace, God. [00:16:51] Speaker B: Peace, God. [00:16:53] Speaker A: Do the knowledge. I know you gonna dig this. [00:16:57] Speaker B: We actually did it. We're actually the champions of the NBA. We actually did it. We're actually the champions of the NBA. You don't understand how big of a deal this is. The Knicks are NBA champions for the first time in 53 years. Is your man talking non stop about the Knicks winning the championship? [00:17:14] Speaker A: Is he saying he's got 100 guns and 100 clips but he works an office job? Is he acting like this is the biggest thing that's ever happened in New York history? Well, it is. [00:17:26] Speaker B: So get on board or get lost. Becky Hammond, I'm talking to you. Come to the front. I just want to talk. Because everybody's better than Jalen Brunson till it's time to be better than Jalen Brunson. Wendy, I hope you enjoy painting cuz you not doing nothing else. [00:17:57] Speaker A: All right. Yeah, just had to bring us a. That was an ad that got in a little bit late. We went ahead and took the payment so that I could play that commercial for us before. But it's still appropriate for building wisdom. All right, let's see here. Thankful Thursday, Cousin Jerome starting off. Cousin Jerome. Faith does not make things easy. It makes them possible. All right, That's Luke. Luke 1:37. Shout out. Okay, next one is from Dr. Martin Luther King. Having place to. Having place a to go. I think that this was copy and pasted a little bit differently. But having a place to go is a home. Having someone to love is family. Having both is a blessing. All right, salute. And then this is from Sam Levinson by way of Cousin Jerome. Don't watch the clock. Do what it does. Keep going. That's tough. That's tough. And then we had. Oh, we discussed. Yeah, we discussed Effie last week. I also would like. All right, so brother Taz, he put. Do not tolerate disrespect, not even from yourself. As deep. That's deep. The bad news is time flies. The good news is you're the pilot. Tough, tough, tough. It does not matter how slowly you go, as long as you do not stop. It's Confucius. Some of these, I wonder, I'll be wondering, like, is it really the person that said that. But yeah. Salute to our brothers for contributing to building wisdom. Of course. Every week. We appreciate you guys more than you realize. All right, now it's time to get to some gangster. All right. What the. This was, man. Out of here, man. All right. Nah, that. The last one was a little. Was a little far, however, said that we was gonna wait to play this till the job was done. Well, guess. Guess what, y'. All. The job is done. Exactly. So we could run this back again. What else? [00:20:51] Speaker B: Here we go. [00:20:59] Speaker A: So, okay, I do want to play this. I got clips galore, y'. [00:21:05] Speaker B: All. [00:21:05] Speaker A: Of course, y' all know I got clips galore for y', all. But let's go ahead and play this first clip here. I think the Knicks are going to win a championship finally in 2020, 2026. Okay, it's John Sally out. [00:21:20] Speaker B: Brunson. Gotta give up the ball. [00:21:22] Speaker A: Every somebody we got scoring. It's the beginning of November. Let's. Let's have a conversation in May. What's. What's their record right now? John Sal. Let's. Let's find out what happens in. [00:21:34] Speaker B: And I don't want to be that guy, but Hugh Brown, he's talking about [00:21:37] Speaker A: M, by the way, I don't know [00:21:38] Speaker B: if he the championship coach. [00:21:41] Speaker A: You didn't know that about the coach of OKC that you don't even know his name? [00:21:45] Speaker B: I don't know his name, but I had 10 years of proof of like. Like. [00:21:51] Speaker A: You don't have 10 years. You don't have 10 years of proof on that coach either. [00:21:54] Speaker B: Hugh Brown has been coaching since 2000. [00:21:57] Speaker A: Hugh Brown, at least. [00:21:58] Speaker B: Like. At least when he was Cavaliers, he never took him to the promise. [00:22:02] Speaker A: Michael Brown, thank you. Thank you. [00:22:03] Speaker B: My back, Michael. [00:22:04] Speaker A: Respect to the black man in June, brother. So, okay, it's Juneteenth, by the way. Y' all think of what Mike Brown had to go through, right? Yeah, he had a lot to deal with. All right. So y' all get the point with that, right? His man, John Sally. All right. Thank you again, brother, for believing. All right? But he's not the only one that believed. All right? So I just want to. Because I got some notes. Okay? First of all, throughout this, the Finals, in the playoffs as a whole, a couple people I gained respect and likeness for. Okay? John Salley, Late Edition, because I just recently saw that clip. So you're certainly one. You get a round of applause for mandatory overtime. All right. Kg, of course. All right. He was giving us our credit, trying to tell Paul Pierce he Was, you know what I mean? Talking bull. He was so appreciate you, Ocho. Okay. Appreciate you. Okay. You was giving us credit as well. All through the playoffs, you saw what nobody else saw. ISO, Joe, Shannon. They was trying to, you know what I'm saying, doubt you and everything like that. You stuck to your guns because you saw what you saw in that team. So we appreciate you. This next one is special, y'. All. This next one is special. Just keep the applause going, please. Next. Thank you. Is for Monica McKnight. I've. I've gained a. A total. Another level of respect and likeness I've already always loved. Oh, like that. I've always loved Monica McNutt. But then, by the way, y', all, she's our ESPN radio commentator, so she does all of the game. She's been with the team for maybe the past four years. Perhaps three years, four years, maybe longer. But she is first of all top notch professional and always handles her job with class. I played a clip of her and her co worker calling the game with the OG tipping, I want to say. But yeah, she's just class personified. Love Monica McNutt. We love her over here at the show, y'. All. You got something bad to say about Monica McNutt? We might have an issue because dope, dope, dope woman. And she knows her basketball, played college ball, had an opportunity to play overseas or work out for the wnba, and she never did. But she got into media and yeah, yo, huge, huge amount of respect that I gained for her. Yeah, some niggas that I lost respect for, lost some likeness for with this. Now, J. Will. All right, you on the list, of course, Paul Pierce, we already didn't like you. That's fine. Lou Will Chandler Parsons, first of all, Chandler Parsons, you look like a yes man a little bit. But Lou Will Chandler Parsons. I understand. Lou Will. And I've always rocked with you, bro. I know that you, you know the Atlanta ties and stuff, but y', all, y' all let it blind y'. [00:25:34] Speaker B: All. [00:25:34] Speaker A: And then you got the Atlanta and Philly ties and we with both of them, We beat both of your teams. Lou Will, so I know why you mad. And then you played for the Knicks, but I know why you mad. Chandler Parsons, you just followed him up the whole postseason. Becky Hammond, whatever, you can stay. Where you at that. Now this next one is kind of tough for me, cuz you gave Jaylen his first nickname. All right, Perk kind of upset with you a little bit. With certain. With one particular take that you have and we'll get to it here in a minute. But you let me down with one of your takes, brother. I'm not gonna lie. And it's fine. But we. We'll get to that. Like I said. So did lose respect and stuff for you and the people that I was looking to eat crow and just eat their words, you know, Colin Cowherds of the world, Bill Simmons of the world, Nick Wright, he came around, and as. As the Knicks kept winning, he went ahead and admitted, you know, what he saw before his own eyes. All right, so you're neutral. Nick. Nick. But Chris Broussard, all right, you went. You went sour. You went sour on the Knick. So we're not gonna forget none of that stuff. Draymond, of course. You already have. Already wasn't rocking with you like that. So those are the people I gained respect for, and the people lost respect for doing the. During the playoffs as a whole, but in the. In the championship round finals, in the aftermath of the finals, oh, how could I forget another. I lost respect for Jeff Teague. Come on, bro. You was trending that way anyways, bro. But come on, Cam, Mace, y' all could join that boat, too. All right, Y' all just all openly doubted the Knicks. Horrible journalism, horrible commentary, and content to just lie to your audience and stuff, to deny what you're seeing on the screen. Screen and everything, and act willfully oblivious, willfully obtuse to what you were seeing on the screen. As far as greatness. What as far as greatness goes, I said talking about, man. So all y', all, yo, you heard New York style. Real sorry, y'. All. Now this episode is bought, but to you, by the New York Knicks mean, man. Now, I wanted to discuss a little bit of the magic, because to win a championship is difficult. I would know because I'm a champion. But to win a championship is difficult. It doesn't take only skill, chemistry, and talent, but you need some luck. Some would call it divinity, some would call it God's gifts, but you need a little bit of that, A little bit in order to. In order to take the chip home every year, right? Whether it comes down to your health and other people being injured, whether it comes down to the seating and home court advantage versus not or opponents that are playing other opponents and how far they go in their series, upsets in other series, There's a bunch of things that play a part in becoming a champion and bringing us to where we are today, y'. [00:29:20] Speaker B: All. [00:29:21] Speaker A: Some people see them as conspiracies. Imma just Call it what it is. Some people see that stuff as conspiracies. So I wanted to talk about some of the magic that was involved with the Knicks bringing this home. All right, so the first, first things first. 19, January 6, 1994. The Dallas Mavericks traded at the time of veteran point guard to the New York Knicks in exchange for forward Tony Campbell in a 1997 first round draft pick. This is in 1994. January 6th. That point guard's name, Derek Harper. Stay with me, y'. [00:30:13] Speaker B: All. [00:30:14] Speaker A: What number did Derek Harper wear, y'? All? The number 11. Just saying. All right, follow me. Move what 20 something years ahead. And the Dallas Mavericks strike again by letting a free agent go and test the waters. A point guard, if you will. Young veteran at the. Very, very young. Young, young, but not a veteran at the time. But he WORE the number 11 in New York. His name, Jalen Brunson. All right, so let's continue with some of the magic and divinity that occurred 1999. 9. The Knicks are facing the Spurs. The spurs beat the Knicks on there on the Knicks home floor in MSG in 5 games. Dominated them with a young Tim Duncan, young star. All right, you fast forward 27 years or whatnot. And the Knicks beat the spurs in five games. Ended the finals on their floor, home floor. It's a little payback. You know who was on that Knicks roster? Ahabu, Patrick Ewing. I'm talking about 1999. A hobble Patrick Ewan had Larry Johnson, Alan Houston, however, who's on the bench but one. Rick Brunson on the bench with the Knicks at that time. Of course, many of y' all know. Of course, whatever like that. And then, yeah, his son finishes it, finishes the finals in five games on the spurs court, mind you, the same court where Jalen scores how many points as his career high? 61. Stay with me on the 6. 1. Y' all off but 61 points. I don't want to get too conspir, I mean conspiracy theorist out there, but score 61 points out there. The infamous game. Wimy takes the ball, he throws it into the stands, Celebrates because the spurs had a close win. They may have won by three points. I don't, I don't know how much they won by seriously with that game, but if they did only one by three points, that would be amazing. But 61 point game from Jalen, Brad Brunson, and I'll explain in a minute why it'd be amazing. But also, you know, again, the dominance in San Antonio where everybody else makes the Garden Their stage. Seems like Jalen Brunson makes San Antonio or Texas in some regards his stage. Whenever he's playing in Texas, he plays very well. So just a heads up on that. Right. Got a couple more notes. Hold on. Because I got a late entry on wisdom on the building. Wisdom. So I just wanted to mention this just in from cousin Jerome from Zoe Samudzi, Fabulous Juneteenth Friday. So it says we are not ready to fight because we love fighting. We are ready to fight because we are worth fighting for. So salute, Salute. Shout out. Yeah. So go head forward with a couple of these notes. So we'll talk about the JB Rick Brunson connection here in a moment. But like I mentioned, we have the 61 points by Jalen Brunson. 61 points. I want to really see what he what they lost by. The reason I keep saying that though is because 613 was very, very divine for the Knicks this postseason. Again, some will see it as too much of a coincidence, but the Knicks and the number 613 first, I and I don't know so much about this one, but they say the rumor is Carl Anthony Town's total wins, wins through high school, college and the pros with the finals win makes 613 wins. However, the Knicks, they retired the number 613 and the coach, Red Holzman, he led the Knicks to their first two championships. But it represented. Hold on now. I thought it represented 613 wins or something like that, but it's starting to say some stuff about representing 613 mitzvah, like commandments of the Torah. So it gets a little bit deeper. I didn't realize this then. The Knicks won the championship on 613 on June 13th. So let's see here. Yeah, for some Jewish Knicks fans, the most salient number related to the Nick team's NBA championship win wasn't 94 or the team's finals, which was the team's final score, or 53. It's the number of years since the last title, that which was 53. It was 613. The number is meaningful in Jewish tradition because it signifies the number of commandments outlined in the Torah. For years the number has hung from the rafters at Madison Square Garden, a reference to the number of lifetime wins notched by Red Holzman, the Jewish coach who led the Knicks during their previous championship runs in 1970 and 1973. So maybe I need to put it back on Saturday. It also became the date that the Knicks championship dry spell was broken. June 13 or 6, 13, 13. For some Jews watching that con, the confluence of six 13s was evidence of divine intervention in the next title win. So, yeah, those 613 connections were there. I don't know. I don't know. Just wanted to bring that up, bring that to y' all attention here in the community. All right, but I mean, I guess that's. That's enough next talk. That's enough next talk or whatever like that. Are you crazy? We talking about this enough Next talk. Anyways, more of. Well, first, let's take a break in the notes from the game. I just want to let the audience know, just get my applause ready. Really. I actually. I'm entitled to a championship ring. This is. I'm entitled to a championship ring. I am Junior Knicks alumni, 1994 through about 1997, 98. I don't know if I was allowed to play because of my grades. I'm not sure. But I'm Junior Knicks alumni. Not so I feel like I do have some kind of entitlement to. To the ring ceremony next year. I didn't make it to the parade, but to the ring ceremony, perhaps. And I have some kind of say so in that. Let's see here. Wanted to bring this up real quick. All right. When it comes to fathers, of course, black man, brotherly love to Rick Brunson, of course, brotherly love to. Love to Dell Curry, brotherly love to LeBron James, Ken Griffey, senior. So when it comes to black men, we get that rap or have that rat have had that rap for decades that were absent fathers and that were absent in the home. Then we see evidence of players that play without a father growing up. And I have to play where they seen their mother as the mother and father. Father. And that's a whole nother conversation. But we, you know, there's players like Kevin Durant to the world, LeBron James is where their father's not in their life. But they played 10 times harder because of that to prove something to that. To that silhouette of a father figure or, you know, dad. Now, I want to point out that that that shows the resilience of black people and black men specifically in those sit and. And things like that. But imagine the opposite or the antithesis of that, where a father is not only active in a child's life, but is a skillful, you know, tradesman at the trade that this. That the son wants to take on. So in this case, we talking basketball, but first and foremost, kudos salute to Rick Brunson and Jalen Brunson. The whole Brunson family, they are officially the first family of nyc. But with what, what Rick Brunson was able to do. And then Jalen tells his story a lot with Rick Brunson fighting through different contracts and 10 day contracts and workouts and stuff like that just to, you know, keep them together. Now some people will look at it and be like, the opportunities there to play professional basketball table the money and all of that stuff. But again, some people are so poor, all they have is their money. So things like family and being there for, for those moments are important. They said Rick Brunson was playing, I believe in Australia or just overseas period, whenever Jalen Brunson was born. So he missed Jalen even being born. Like World Wild west was there. Who's Jalen Brunson's godfather, I believe, but. Or Leon Rose, rather one of the two was there when Jalen Brunson was born versus versus his father versus Rick Brunson being there. So outside of all of that, being present in your son's life and then, and actually there, it, it reflects on the man that you become like, I. E. Jalen Brunson, how humble he is, what type of leader he is. And then he always gives credit to his mother as well. So salute to mama Brunson also for raising such a high quality young man. But a lot of people have compared Jalen Brunson to the Derek Jeters of New York and those type of superstars because when you're meek, humble in New York, it'll take you a long way. And especially as a performer, a high level performer like those professional athletes. But a lot of people compare him to the Derek Jeter, that captain that's just, you know, cool, calm and collected and holding the city down. But you know, again with Rick Brunson and Jalen Brunson and you know, Cameron so blinded with his Knicks hate, I believe he brought up the LeBron stuff. And earlier this year when he was on First Take with Stephen A. And he's like, LeBron made his teammate. You know, he, he actually like made his teammate. They, him and his wife made Bronnie. And it's like, that's cool, that's fine. But Rick Brunson made a champion. You heard my boy got a champion out of there and then was on the squad, on the coaching staff to get a ring and be instrumental in the championship. So that Rick Brunson, Jalen Brunson father son connection may have climbed a couple notches above some other father son connections out there, notable like I mentioned Ken Griffey, Senior Ken Griffey Jr. LeBron and Bronnie playing on the same court at the same time. That's very hard to top. And then you got Dell Curry, Steph Curry. We see what Steph Curry has become. So there's, there's definitely the different father son combos out there. I love to hear who you guys rank and where you rank your father son combos at. How could I hear that? Perhaps simply engage with us. A little engagement won't hurt nobody. But feel free to email us at the show. Mandatory ot704gmail.com Mandatoryot704gmail.com or also give us a call. 704-781-7011 that's 704-781-7011 before we get into some of the parade antics, I did want to discuss the final game a little bit. Final game again, we scored 94. I don't even remember what see here final. But anyways, the final game was game five. That was 94 to 90. Jalen Brunson had 45 points again. The Knicks were down big early again. And then we came back once again. Jalen Brunson in the Comeback Knicks did it again. Now they're the champion Knicks for the first time in 53 years. New York rules of the NBA. Jalen Brunson scored 45 points, including 13 straight for New York in the fourth quarter. And the Knicks beat the San Antonio Spurs 9490 in game five of the NBA finals on Saturday night. The Knicks won the series four to one, rallying from double digit deficits in all four of those victories. The deficit was 16 on Saturday night. Brunson and the Knicks were never phased. All right. Brunson fittingly closed with a flourish. He set a Knicks record for points in a finals game. It had been 38 by Willis Reed against the Los Angeles lakers in game three of the 1970 series. It now belongs to the left handed point guard who changed the franchise's fortune. Friends when he arrived four years ago. Mikhail Bridges and Josh Hart. The other two part of the Nova Knicks Salute to Dante. We see you out there, my boy. The Nova Knicks trio that also includes Brunson. Three players who were NCAA champions at Villanova and teamed up in New York to try to do the same. Combined again Mikhail Bridges and Josh Hart. They combined to score 27 points. Bridges have 14, Hart had had 13. Dylan Harper for the spurs scored 25 points, got 19 points, 14 rebounds and five block shots from Victor Wembanyama. He was quoted saying, this is the biggest lesson of my life, the biggest learning moment. I can't tell exactly what the lesson is. What, But we're learning that. That's. That's a quote from him. Another thing he said when he was getting up from the podium, he said to the media, I'll see you guys never. What's wrong with you? Anyways, Nicks improved to 4.0in closeout opportunities this season, winning them all on the road. What are we talking about, y'? All? It didn't feel like the road though, not with thousands of Knicks New York faithful rather having made the trip to Texas to see a moment 53 years in the making. Salute to Charles Oakley. Brotherly love to Charles Oakley, who was in attendance as well. And back home on the streets of the Big Apple, celebrations broke out everywhere. Fireworks lit up the sky, the night sky. People honked horns on jam packed streets and firefighters from their trucks slapped high fives with delirious fans. History. New York City Mayor Zora Ron Mandani wrote on social media, then added that the Knicks championship parade will be Thursday, which was yesterday. New York got to the brink of this title by rallying from 29 points down in game four iconics to win 107, 106 on OG and no be tip in with 1.2 seconds left on Wednesday night. It was the largest comeback. That's one record, by the way. Largest comeback in NBA Finals history and the biggest comeback in any game this season, regular season or the playoffs by comparison. Then a 16 point rally in this one seemed easy and San Antonio had to shuffle off into the off season listening to the Knicks fans celebrating in their building. Mitch Johnson quoted to say we weren't ready to win an NBA championship. The better team won. Class. We did a lot of good things and we didn't finish the job. That's what it is, right? The better team won. You said your statement. So whatever class brother game followed the same script in the opening minutes as all the others in the series. With the spurs taking a double digit lead in the first quarter and then frittering most of it away in the second quarter, the Spurs I'm sorry y' all do the knowledge. The spurs became the first team in the play by play era which started in the 1996-1997 season to lead five games, five finals games by 10 points or more in first quarters. It's another record the Nick simply could not make a shot, missing on 16 of the first 18 tries size of each of their 112 point attempts there even was a point in the second quarter when Wimana had more block shots 5 than the Knicks had made shots 4. San Antonio's lead was as many as 10 in the first quarter, as many as 16 in the second. Of course, none of it mattered. As always, the Knicks came back. A 22:9 run in the second quarter got New York within three. Then Devin Vassell scored board just before halftime, 42:37. Listen man, y' all know how the rest went. Now with some more divinity there. Brunson won NCAA crowns twice with Villanova, both in Texas. The 2016 one was in Houston and 2018 one was in San Antonio, just a few miles away from the arena that the spurs ball. So a Texas three step of titles and this one was surely the sweetest of them all. So yeah, salute again to my brothers up there in New York. You know what I'm saying? The whole squad. I'll be up there next season to get my ring at the ring ceremony. Y' all junior Nicks alumni speaking right here. But yeah, salute one more time to the Knicks. Knicks. There's a bunch of stuff about that game and about the series, about the Knicks that we could go on and on and on about. And that's what we're gonna do. Happy Juneteenth, by the way, y'. All. Happy Juneteenth. Let's see if I can find this article real quick. Give me one second here. Let me pull up this article. So as we stated in the past, there's plenty of records that the Knicks have broken through throughout the postseason. This particular postseason. But this article focuses more on the records that they broke during the Finals. So we're going to go ahead and highlight that you heard NBA.com reports this may have been the best five games final series that we've ever seen in the 30 years of. Excuse me, in the 30 years for which we have played. By play data, the 2026 finals was the only final series series where every game was within five points in the last five minutes. Just the fourth playoff series where games one through five were all within three points in the last two minutes. And in the first series in the last 10 years where games one through five were all within three points in the last two minutes. Five incredible games. Even though the San Antonio spurs won the first five quarters by a total of 57 points and led by as many as 29 in game four, the New York Knicks just kept coming back, erasing double digit deficits in all five games and winning four of the five to earn the franchise's first championship in 53 years. The Knicks finished these playoffs six and two in games trail by double digits, the best such playoff record for any team in these 30 years of play by play data team's overall record in the playoff games when trailing by double digits over that time is is 530 wins and 2007 losses. In other words a 2 a 209 winning percentage to to you know, pull off that feat. Brunson led the finals with 22 points scored in the clutch with the score within 5 in the last five minutes of the fourth quarter is considered clutch. The most clutch points for any player in the finals in the last 15 years since Dirk Nowitzki scored 266 in the 2011 finals. He wasn't particularly efficient but he had a clutch usage rate of 53.3%. Some analytics there. Brunson has now led the playoffs in clutch usage rate in each of the last three years. He was the Knicks offense down the stretch of all of those closeout games, often taking on Victor Wembanyama on critical possessions. In the finals. In game one Brunson got his hands on an offensive rebound down drained at the corner three to give the Knicks the lead for good with 151 left and then hitting a ridiculous shot to put them up. Little floater to put them up six in the final minute. In game two he hit a tough fade away jumper to tie the game in the final minute and then made the game winning free throw with nine and a half seconds left. In game four he had the Knicks two field goals that preceded OG Anunoby's game winning iconic tipping pause partner left and in game five he had the final field goal given Knicks the lead for good by beating Stefan Castle and tossing in another floater with 1 minute and 6 seconds on the clock. Overall this was Brunson's fourth least efficient playoff series. True shooting percentage of 53.6% of the 15 that he's played in but he was clearly the finals MVP. Shout out to Cats still having scored 45 points in the title clinching game 55 Nick's head coach Mike Brown finishes and said he's a freaking one a he's an MVP candidate. A little shot there Becky Hammond the Knicks were also the best defensive team in the playoffs allowing 100 104.5 points per 100 possessions over their 19 games. In the clutch they allowed just 66 points on 72 defensive possessions. It's normally 92 per 100 I'm assuming is the league average. There were a little bit. There was a little bit of luck there as the knicks opponent shot just 4 for 19, 21 on clutch three pointers and amazingly bad 10 for 21 on clutch free throws. Legs okay, that's just rest, all right. These other guys have been playing game sevens and all of that stuff, but nevertheless, spurs obviously made a couple of brutal decisions down the stretch of game two and and four of the finals. But the Knicks consistently came up with big stops, including a few right at the rim in the final minutes of game five. This was the first postseason for the spurs core. They had a tremendous run knocking off defending champs Oklahoma City Thunder in the conference finals by winning game seven on the road. But they were just 3 and 8, 0 and 5 at home in playoff games that were within five points in the last five minutes. Dominate who they scored just 93 points on 97 clutch possessions. 96 per 100 is the average over those 11 games. When Binyama 12 for 23 and Dylan Harper 8 for 16 combined to shoot 20 for 39. 52% on clutch shots. But their teammates were a combined 11 for 30, 11 for 43, 26%. So again, Mitch Johnson's quote there. We were not ready to win a championship and the better team won. You damn right. The better team, right? You damn right. All right, let's get to a little bit of parade stuff. And I'm sure there's things that I'm forgetting with regards to the game. Do we want to talk Wemby before we get to the parade stuff? Yeah, let's talk this Wendy Yama stuff. Young guy, 22 years old. I said it on the past couple shows and stuff like that. Emotional. All right, we talked about that, but just not a. Not a winner right now. He's not a winner right now. He. He may become one or may adopt some of the principles of winning and leading a winning team, but he's not a leader of winning basketball right now. Some of the things that he does does on the court, the things that he says off the court is I could see that it doesn't come off genuine. It doesn't come off like it's truly his him. Seems and appears that he has too many handlers in his ear, probably telling him what he needs to do or how he needs to be. But yeah, the. His pressure that he probably feels to be a physical, dominant big man has led him down the path of Bush Lee League dirty plays. You just got to call it for what it is. So there were several during our Series. Of course it was fun and games whenever the spurs look like they may come back on the Knicks or that they may win. But it wasn't. It wasn't fun anymore when the rabbit had the gun. But anyways, notable, notable bush league plays by Wembanyama. All right, this is not including anything that he said for the rest of the spurs to do to Jared McCain or Chet Holmgren. And I'm talking about our series with us having the knowledge of what happened in the previous series. He first of all, in the game, one gets Alvarado caught up. I guess they both get caught up. And then he has Alvarado on like a headlock and swings him around. All right, whatever. Okay, that, that got. Not that didn't get called. And then the next game or the first. Yeah, I believe it was the next game or maybe the first game in New York. Game three. He the infamous mush of Jalen Brunson takes Jalen Brunson inside of the head, mushes him all the way down, damn near where Jalen Brunson head damn near touched the ground. So everybody laughed that off. Ah, he's just getting the pesky Jalen Brunson off of him and all of that stuff. So we kept enabling this behavior. Then you see him do this wild jump step to go out to set a fake screen on OG and he's trying to make sure that he stepped on OG's foot or hit him in the leg or something. I don't know. It. It looked wild though. It didn't look like a basketball play. And then there was one play where he stepped under Josh Hart. [00:58:04] Speaker B: Hart. [00:58:05] Speaker A: Josh Hart makes a shot or takes a shot rather, and he doesn't react or he doesn't fall on Wemby's foot, something like that. But then the final play that kind of sent me over the top was him sticking his foot under Jalen Brunson's three pointer attempt and Jalen Brunson landed on it and turning his ankle where there was no call on that, no flagrant, no nothing. And Jalen Brunson just got called for a flagrant foul on Champagne Kenny the game before for doing the exact same thing. Jalen Brunson's even look more innocent because he turned away and looked like he was not concerned or wasn't thinking to do that. Wembanyama is on film looking straight down at Jalen Brunson's foot and his foot to make sure that his foot is positioned under Jalen Brunson. It just. It just you don't get the grace. It's like Draymond Green. You don't get the grace anymore with his brother. So it looks like a dirty place play. Excuse me. We're going to call it a dirty play, brother. We're going to call it a dirty play. Now the game ends with Wemby walking off the floor. He doesn't shake any hands or whatever like that. Walks off once the game is over. And then again in the post game, he's fixated on them dominating. My bad. Y' all know Cam's a Spurs fan too, too. Yeah, Cameron, he's his first fan. He claims them, but he. Wimby's talking about them dominating us and that we dominated. And he's at a loss for words. Looking and fishing and searching for answers. And trust me, trust me, I'm used to this look on opponents faces after we defeat them horribly. We've seen it all postseason. People searching for answers. They don't know what to do. Scrambling for roster changes, roster shakeups. You know, let's fire the coach. Let's do the. Everybody has had to go through it so we can understand. But he was searching for answers. Couldn't find none. Also nothing. That one thing he couldn't find was a congratulations to the all right, so that was my biggest issue. It wasn't just the non handshake on the floor, but it was the non acknowledgment of the champions and the, that just whipped your ass. And, and yeah, again, like the non acknowledgment. Right. Of whatever. Of y' all just, just calling it what it is. Y' all were not the better team. Right. However, you gotta say it, the Knicks one or congratulations to Knicks. Some acknowledgment, but the fact that there was none. But bye. All right. With, with also with Wimby, it's a lot of I, A lot of me me. I, I, I need this. This is the beginning of my is. It's not a lot of we. When you hear Jalen Brunson, it's all we. It's all we, us, the team we. So just pay attention to those things. We. I'm telling y', all, it hasn't steered me wrong yet. I versus we. Me. Us versus me. So along with that, though, with not shaking the Knicks hand or anything like that. Jalen Brunson and the Knicks class act did the exact opposite. All right, go over there. Shook Jalen Brunson, shook Mitch Johnson's hand and you know, and, and was looking for players to Dap up and show respect to, of course. And all through the finals, not just because we won in five, but they've been giving credit to the Spurs. Hey, they're a great team. They can, you know, they're a great young team. This and that. Something for the spurs to learn, that's fine, but learn it on our dime while we're champions, I guess. You know what I'm saying? You can learn. It's fine. Learn your lesson, brother. Learn your lesson. All right, on our dime. So that leads me, though, to the apologist for Wemby about the handshake and everything like that. That is, I brought up earlier, me losing respect for Perk. That was the one thing where I was like, come on, Perk. And I felt like Perk was being short sighted or trying to go viral. Whatever the case was, was he just wasn't being sincere. Perhaps he was being sincere about him. And see, Kendrick Perkins, you can do, See, this is the thing. Kendrick Perkins, you can do that. You don't got to shake hands. Kenya Martin, you don't got to shake hands. There's a lot of guys out there. Y' all don't have to shake hands. Y' all never knew what the weight of being the face of the league or potential face of the league is. Y' all never knew what carrying that brand on your back where one move one way or the other could mean something. LeBron, let's ask him what his opinion is on it. Let's ask Isaiah Thomas, after he went through what he went through after making that choice, what his decision is on that. Draymond Green, I don't agree with him on much, but, but his take on this was spot on to me. He mentioned wanting to see your killer in the eyes, given, you know, looking them in the eyes, being able to look them in the eyes. Because the alternative is your killer knowing that they own you and that they, they got you anytime that they play you. So I, I, I, I love what Draymond was saying about that. Looking the killer in the eyes and, and letting them know, hey, great, great competition, we'll see you again. You know what I mean? With all sincerity and being and having that opportunity to do so when be skipping out on something like that or whatever, hey, it's a learning experience. I won't indict him all the way. But also accepting leadership, certain leadership roles come with bearing heavier responsibilities than other. So him, you know, again, leading his team and being able to have the power to tell them that to, to do stuff to Jeremy McCain or whatever like that, or him getting the spotlight every time they win and stuff like that because he's such a, you know, alien, if you will. He has to take the good with the bad. He's. That's not the first post game that he's, you know, fumbled or skipped out on or anything like that. So it again, it definitely has made me grow dislike like for Wimby, you know, I don't care so much for the eggs thing right now because it happened. You know what I'm saying? So whatever that, yeah, I had to, had to kind of wrap up the game and talk about that because that was on my mind. I didn't like, I don't like the precedent that was setting four kids out there, especially young leaders, just to irresponsibly say, yeah, man, I don't care to shake nobody hand. This ain't aau. This ain't the Pop Warner this and that. Like, there's a purpose and a reason that we program that into the children at a young age. Because as hard as we compete and prepare for these games and for sports, it is just that it's a sport. It's a game. If you can get out of that game with no injuries without, with your life. We didn't seen players like hang out gathers and stuff like that lose their life on the basketball court. The, the brother from Claflin, he just recently lost his life on the basketball court. So if you can get a. Get out of that competition, that gladiator sport with your life, then that's reason enough just to shake the, the next man's hand and say, hey, great competition. Also, you know, is is not the end all be all, in other words, of the end of the world. But Again, as a 22 year old, I experience expect Victor to mature. We may have put a little too much dip on his chip, giving him too much credit for being mature or zen like before, you know, we gave him too much Kareem and no, Kareem knew martial arts, but knowing martial arts and stuff, you know when to use it. You feel what I'm saying? Like, he is more Draymond Green than Kareem. Let's be real. All right. But anyways, yesterday, June 18, New York City. Had that parade. Y' all shout out to New York. Raid was wild. I got a couple notes from the parade real quick here. Jordan Clarkson had the party float. It looked like, all right, I saw a boogie on that float. I don't know how I felt about the New York Legends float as far as the hip hop legends. [01:06:59] Speaker B: Cool. [01:06:59] Speaker A: But you know when you outside and you just got like the little PA speaker and you're talking on the mic, like yelling on the mic, and it kind of comes distorted, Comes out distorted. That's how it sounded like all of the rappers that were performing. So salute to Jordan Clarkson's float, though. I had that written down because he had a boogie on there, you know what I'm saying? Show the youngling some love. The young generation time. Tyler Kolik, he was running off of the float to say what's up to the fans and got caught up in the reverse. Karen, you know, where black people are assumed to be criminals and stuff like that. Well, every white guy is not assumed to be an NBA champion or a basketball player. So they are stopping him. And they wasn't trying to let in him, you know, they was trying to accost him, if you will. And. And people had to let NYPD know. No, that's. That's a player. Tyler Kolik is one of the players, so. Salutes Tyler Kolik. Mitchell Robinson's truck. Brotherly love. Brotherly love. Well, that boy got like a F450, 650 or something, that thing. This boy got a huge truck in the rims. He got. Got like, it's show ready, so he got the rims poking out on the left and all of that. So shout out to brotherly love to Mitchell Robinson's truck. Herb Williams. We saw Herb Williams out there, man. I. I did. That's. I got. I kind of got a little emotional, y'. All. When they showed Herb, y', all, I couldn't keep it together, y'. [01:08:44] Speaker B: All. [01:08:45] Speaker A: Her Williams, man. Come on, man. They had Spencer Haywood in the parade, which I thoroughly respected. And then also Walt Clyde Frazier was leading the parade, and some fly looked like he drove that joint back in the 70s, you know what I'm saying? But shout out to World Clap Frazier as well. Shout out to all of the fans, though. Spike Lee, Tracy Morgan, you know, Mariska from Law and Order, Twitter, But. And everybody that showed love, even. Even you, Taylor Swift, shout out to you as well. It's been a long week. Exhausting week. Oh, no, no, no, no. I ain't mean to do that. My bad. But shout out once again to all of the fans and stuff like that. It's been a long, exhausting week. We, as an organization, we're exhausted. You know what I'm saying? But we appreciate everybody's love. We appreciate the famous fans, more importantly, because without you guys, without the fans, none of this would be possible. You know, I had a quick. Another quick ad. I think Reb might be upset with me at this one now. Arib, she. She introduced me to, like, kind of water farming and what damage the environment is taking from AI and everything like that as far as the consumption of water or how much water it uses. But there are certain. There's these videos out there, and. The videos are reading comments from whatever, like, YouTube video, whatever. And the comments are transcribed in AI like a. A cheesy, corny pop record. And it's some of the funniest content that I've seen online. I can't lie. So I was just gonna play this real quick. A couple of these comments that they're singing, apparently real quick. So let's see here. This is Smash Burgers, by the way. Beef crackers. This is. When is the grand closing. Smash Burgers are the dumbest thing. I rather come around when y' all ain't open this hugely thin Smash Burgers. They don't look like it got 16 of ground beef on here, but nevertheless. Yeah. Salute. Salute. I guess. Salute. I don't know. But anyways, let's see what we got going on. I think I want to get to Brotherly Love here in a moment. I did want to show some love to Sock, but, yeah, like, let's hope. [01:11:49] Speaker B: Hold on. [01:11:49] Speaker A: My fault, y', all, cuz we've been going long enough. A lot of celebrating going on. Show love. It don't show nothing. It don't cost nothing to show a show with who? [01:11:59] Speaker B: Love. [01:12:02] Speaker A: All right, so definitely Brotherly Love and salute to all of my Knicks fans out there. Of course, day ones, shout out to Sock. Sock had a book that I wanted to share with y'. All. I kind of. I thought I wrote it down, but I'm bringing to y' all next week. We're gonna bring back the book club, of course, but salute to Sock. Yo. Salute to Be easy. Be Easy was out here in Charlotte. I think he. I think they canceled or postponed the Wale concert because of the weather, because of the rain. Salute to Big Cliff as well. Listen, y', all, if y' all made it this far in the episode, I will be. And you happen to be in Rock Hill. I don't know if y' all hear this by the time, but if you're in Rock Hill on Juneteenth, I will be performing at Fountain park for the community for Juneteenth first. Well, Juneteenth food truck Friday celebration. So, yeah, shout out to that Brotherly Love Brotherly love to my dog, Tyrone. All right, that's beautiful. Big Daddy Kane's cousin, we call him Nine Five. All right? Some of the bros call him 52 Savage. 51 Savage, rather. But shout out to my dog. Shout out to all my other frat brothers. You know what I'm saying? Land the Sigma. What's up? What's happening? Shout out to Ashton, of course. Shout out to Mix Master T. Shout out to Carlos. Shout out to my brother, Fat boy. Shout out to Q. Shout out to the poker crew. Hard Hat T, Dog. Shout out to all of the brothers. Trey. Trey came out to poker this past week. Got his issue. Yeah, man. Salute. Salute to everybody at work, matter of fact. Oh, how could I forget? Cashed in on all of my bets, you heard. So to the mandatory overtime social media page, please be on the lookout. We will be showing all of the bets I cashed in on. Remember, I don't bet money on my team, but I. I definitely got some people in some Knicks jerseys that probably didn't want to hold them up or didn't want to eat their words, so we definitely got that. Salute to all the fellas at work. Yeah. Consent or not, y' all will be going up on the social media. I'm sorry. I could put a clown emoji over your face. Whatever you like, all right? But brotherly love. Brotherly love to Cousin Jerome. Brotherly love to Taz. Brotherly love to Big Jerome. All of the fathers out there, brotherly love. Happy Father's Day. Happy early Father. Father's Day. To all of the fathers out there, you know, salute. Sisterly love to all of our listeners, too. All of our women. Listen. Our female listeners. Our woman listeners. Our woman listeners. I'm sorry, y'. All, I didn't mean that. Our woman listeners. But brotherly, I mean, sisterly love, Reb, of course. Amy, Deuce, Deuce. Coco in the culture. Cheryl Poison. Of course. Patriot Patty. Salute. Salute to all. [01:15:04] Speaker B: All. [01:15:04] Speaker A: All of y' all here. Before I pray us out, though, definitely want to play a couple of the clips just so I can get these off, because I don't know any other opportunity, so. We will. Yeah. Before we pray out. See here, at the end of the [01:15:30] Speaker B: day, do we really care what your fans, other cities say about us? No, we don't. But it's always interesting to me when you hear the national media perspective. Now, true transparency, I was a part of that right when I was at FS1 and left the station a few years ago. But the reality is that every national pundit every step of the way has said, this going to be a really tough matchup for the Knicks. All this was going to be a really tough matchup for the Knight Knicks. And when the Knicks basically swept through all those other teams, all those pundits, interestingly enough, went from, this would be a really tough matchup. You know, Embiid and. And Maxi, they can't beat those guys. Oh, you know, the guard play of Donovan, Mitchell and Harden. You can't stop those guys. Right, right. Oh, Wemby. You know, and obviously the. The. The youth and the athleticism of the spurs. And now people are pivoting to, boy, this could be a really tough matchup for the Knicks. And now all of a sudden, it's the easiest road of all time to a championship. Yeah, but every stop of the way it was, oh, it's a bad matchup for the next bad matchup. It's gonna be tough for the Knicks to get by this. Better off with the Celtics than the 76. But now it's like, easiest road ever. Yep. And that just shows you the disingenuity of the national media that hates on everything that is New York. At the end of the day, do we really care? What? [01:16:45] Speaker A: All right. Couldn't have said it better. But anyways, it's with supreme faith that's in God. It comes straight from the heart. Made it ego and the hubris and never break us apart. And from one brother to another, if nobody's ever told you before, I love you. All right, appreciate y'. All. Appreciate y' all joining me on another episode of Mandatory Overtime. We'll catch y' all next week, though. Peace. [01:17:14] Speaker B: Hey, everybody, it's closing time. You don't gotta go home, but you can't stay here. Closing time. [01:17:30] Speaker A: I know you gonna dig this. Use a freaky ass. [01:17:43] Speaker B: There you go. [01:17:44] Speaker A: Caught in the left chat. Ex Blackly. [01:17:48] Speaker B: Mama got that bunch of crunch Biggs, Blackley. [01:17:57] Speaker A: Hip hop, hip hop. [01:17:58] Speaker B: Damn, son. You're now the mix with dj high star. We are the new york knicks [01:18:11] Speaker A: we [01:18:11] Speaker B: are the new york knicks.
