I deposit every other zero thinking of my partner. Put the candy pending on a pocket in a profit big enough to feed you every day. [00:12:10] Speaker A: What up, what up, what up, y'? All? Welcome to another episode of mandatory overtime. I'm your main man, DJ Highstar. The aim here at mandatory overtime as far as to recalibrate the definition of manhood with one conversation at a time in the community. In the community that consists of you all, of course, just simply an audio journal of an 80s baby. A social experiment, inconsistency. You could have been anywhere in the world, but you're here listening to me. And for that, I appreciate you first and foremost. Slay. Let's not confuse this with the manners. It. It's just a Place where the man is fair. So pull up a chair. Like comment. Subscribe, Share, Engage. You know, email. Call in, but make some noise, y'. All. Cause your main man is here. You heard. Reporting live from the 704 Charlotte America. 980, 704. I haven't seen the new area codes or anything like that yet, but salute. Charlotte and surrounding areas is home of Charlotte Hornets. No knife. Carolina Panthers salute. Charlotte America was hanging. Joined by my Russian sound engineer. And then check 1, 2. And wait a. Check 1, 2. Good. Let's go to work. Look, start this off like this, y'. All. Last week. First and foremost, again, appreciate my cousin Big Donald. I don't know. Hey, Big Don. I don't know. Big. Don't you know the. The real. Yeah. Only Donald that I know is my cousin Donald. You know what I'm saying? I don't know. We gotta figure out a little nickname. But thank you again for coming on the show to interview. I think some of my. I saw a lot of opportunities in my interviewing style and skills. Talking less or like, balancing out the mics a little bit better. So I don't talk over. But that's me being like a, you know, kind of hyper perfectionist. I'm so used to being on here and just talking straight to y'. All. So that's the first revision, if you will, is I'm just self aware of. Of kind of how the interview came off. And I'm definitely proud of the questions and the conversation that we got across. It was difficult fighting against time and stuff. But the all. I'll be honest with y', all. I was doing a lot of the. And it was right there into the microphone. So it's like, nah, DJ High Star, you don't got to do all of that. And I think I get a lot of that from my mother, though. My mom is one of the type where when she's watching movies and stuff, somebody about to die or the suspense music happens, she'd be on some. Oh, so, yeah, I peeped that. I picked that up from last week a little bit in the interview. If I could do anything to change one thing about it is I would take away some of the. And. And yeah, and they was talking over, but it's all good. Salute again to my cousin, man. Appreciate you, bro. Very spirited conversation. I think everybody that listened enjoyed it. I'm getting great feedback on. On that. Let's go ahead real quick, though, and get to the. Get to things as far as. Is that Prince getting started with [00:15:46] Speaker Y: what's today's mathematics, yo. No disrespect, but we ain't in all of that, son. [00:15:49] Speaker Z: Build. Destroy. The build is to elevate the mentalities of seven self and those around self, to add positive energy to every nation. To build, you must first start from the root, which is the knowledge foundation, and add on to the highest peak. To destroy is to eliminate and destroy any and all negativity that enters my cipher of supreme harmony. [00:16:09] Speaker R: Peace, God. [00:16:10] Speaker Z: Peace, God. [00:16:13] Speaker AA: Knowledge. [00:16:16] Speaker AB: I'mma dig this. [00:16:18] Speaker A: See, that's why all of that. Yeah. [00:16:22] Speaker AC: Come after me. [00:16:24] Speaker A: I'm a man. Last couple weeks with building wisdom, I've been kind of off with the. With the sound, so. But nevertheless, let's go ahead and go to Cousin Jerome, y'. All. Let's start off on Monday. Monday, yeah. So God gave us the gift of life. It is up to us to give ourselves the gift of living well. Salute. Salute. Nice tough. Shout out to National Pumpkin day, which was October 26th as well. Let's see here. Also, that men do not learn very much from the lessons of history is the most important of all the lessons of history. [00:17:08] Speaker AA: Do the knowledge. [00:17:10] Speaker A: All right. So again, that men do not learn very much from the lessons of history. History is the most important of all the lessons of history. That's tough. Super tough. All right. And then we got all the beautiful sentiments in the world. Way less than a single lovely action from James Russell. That's super tough. So you know all of them words and them floweries. Words mean, but so much. Okay. And show people change through your actions and such. Got one from Big Rotaz. He says, conquer your fears before they conquer you. Super tough. Said I'm gonna make the rest of my life the best of my life. Tough. Tough. Then work for it more than you hope for. And then, yeah, you may see me struggle, but you will never see me quit. Okay. Salute. Biggie actually sent me some wisdom. Salute to my big bro. Big E, of course, out there, Georgetown. So Biggie said, you trusted the wrong people. You paid for it, you learned. Now your circle is smaller and your life is quieter for a reason. Oh, yeah, of course. Then another one. Biggie, I got somebody for you on the. On the. On the graphics. If you don't want them to use the AI. But nevertheless, it's my bro. Don't go back to what damaged you. That includes people, places, habits, and even family. Family. Protect your peace. Choose what builds you, not what breaks you. Salute. Salute to my big bro, Big E. Man. And then I also see one from him where it says, you Cannot have a brighter future if you keep carrying a heavier past. Shout out. Super tough salute. Thank you, Biggie. Thank you for that, brother. Cool, Cool. Yeah. And then let me see here, just while we here. Be strong enough one from Bling. Be strong enough to stand alone, smart enough to know when you need help, and brave enough to ask what. I read that one, but I just wanted to read this for my brother from my brother Bling. It's a little early showing love, but I see here everybody, Eric Kane, the Eagle Spotlight. Hi, I'm Eric King, and I'm joining OPS this school, this school year as a school Counselor. I have 17 years experience in education and a master's degree in counseling. Education chose OPS because of their love for children. I'm excited for the amazing school year ahead. So, my man, if y' all knew Bling like I know Bling, that's just fantastic, man. So brotherly love and salute to my brother Bling. I know in the corporate world, brother, you got it. You're gonna be known in the public, so I had to drop your government there, but school counselor. All right, so y' all heard the intro or whatnot? Again, I ain't know how to really feel about that. Of course, we give this. This. We'll give Trump a thousand or a million, right. Of those, but still, yet just the cringiness of what's going on in America and what had. What happened or took place with that scene doesn't sit right with me, of course. But ultimately, this. This is the. Just a sad state of affairs that we're in. I don't know Nikki's full motivation. Everybody, you know, continues to speculate. Of course, she has this stuff going on with her husband and with her brother as far as their legal issues, but then also her immigration status or her, you know, status as far as citizenship is been in question as well. So we don't know what has pushed that. But to on the flip side, to allow this guy, everything that this guy to say to go off as kind of jokes. You see, this is scary times that we in now. It's scary times, of course. I mean, I'm not here to be on dooms, glooms and whatever and try to scare everybody to death or nothing like that, but just be equipped to. To observe and be aware of what's going on out here. In other words, if. If y' all can. Because if you think about it, I never. You never know what. In different times in history, you never know what people are thinking or how they're living during that time. So examples, example is with the Holocaust or just during Hitler's reign. You don't know, you know, of course, all those that were for Hitler, how, just how it felt perhaps in Germany and things like that. So I say all of that to just say let's. Let's just, of course, be hyper aware. But the things that we've discussed on this show as far as championing intellectualism and, and advocating for, you know, for learning and for continued learning or being, you know, of a high intellect, that is important right now, like, because the dumb and the. The distracted, they're going to be the ones that are kind of hypnotized into, you know, conditioning themselves for a worse future and stuff. And so I've seen a lot on my algorithm, of course, I'm not sure if you guys have seen this movie in the past, but this movie is called Idiocracy. I think it came out around 2006. That along with the Truman show. If you watch both of those movies, it again, is kind of detailing the path that we're going. And the premise of Idiocracy, see, is that in the past, like, for instance, W.E.B. du Bois and his concept of the talented 10th was like that the talented 10th of the population, they'll repopulate, make more babies, and. And those children will continue to, you know, rule nations or continue to run society and stuff like that, and it'll continue to produce or multiply like that. That. And I guess Idiocracy flips that on its head where it thinks about the opposite happening. So what if your best and brightest of your society or your most forward thinkers are either taken out, snuffed, right, assassinated, locked up, anything. And then the children that are being produced, if you will, or, or whatnot, and birthed are all, for lack of better terms, idiots. So again, because the movie's called Idiocracy, so. And it shows a slow. Well, not a slow, because they put these. This guy in a sleeping pod, he wakes up like 500 years later. So it's more of a progressed, like, okay, this is what's going to happen in the future. But, you know, this is accelerating right now. You know what I'm saying? You got this guy, I think, clearly suffering from different dementia symptoms and things like that, and we are allowing him to be the commander and thief. Like, weird. It just doesn't make sense. So we were gonna do this episode regardless, but then that Nicki Minaj stuff happened. And regardless of how much that I do hate and detest the things she represents Some of the things that she does and stuff like that I just look at as black girl lost. Shout out to Nas. I would queue up the song if I never. But that's what I see it as right now. Prayers. I don't know that that is humiliating. Think about just how you feel in that moment again, if you sold out, quote unquote, and then this guy's putting you on the spot and telling you to stand up and everyone is laughing at your arena full of people are laughing and ogling at you and your body. Like people that didn't see the clip. She. When she stands up, she has one of her hands, hands behind her backside. But then there's a clip of her speaking up on the stage and then Trump just looking at her or whatever, like looking at the. You heard what he said in the clip. He said it's off the record, but normally it's woman behinds that I check out. Like. The decorum of the office and the prestige of the office of presidency of the United States has been desecrated forever. And I don't know if it'll ever gain its prestige back after what's been allowed to happen in the White House again. It. It is ridiculous. It is disgusting. It looks. I don't. It's like if I. It was like if. America feels like if Walmart had his managers or something like that tied up and just was allowing the customers just to run free through Walmart and stuff. It's just. It's ridiculous. So again, you know, we had a. Continue to push forward. Let's control what we can control, do what we can do. But. But all the while, like, I just want to say tired and Nicki Minaj and this and that. This is somebody that my goddaughter and everybody looks up to and one of their favorite artists as well. So prayers to the system, Nicki Minaj, because that's. That's very humiliating to go through that and then be the. The talk of the. The world in the day after in that way. But I struggle with this because this is what kind of what you signed up for when you sold us out. But again, just my empathy will not allow me to see a black woman stand up and have to be paraded like that. Or I don't. I don't care who you are. So it's just. It's disgusting. It's disgusting. Y'. All Disgusting. Yeah. So let's see. This is going to be a special episode. Really wanted to go through a couple of things, voting things here in North Carolina for all of all of our listeners here in North Carolina. So I wanted to do that, but also wanted to go through a couple of other things. Give me one quick moment here. This will kind of go into random thoughts this week. Not so much get it off your chest, but random thoughts this week. Give me one second here, here. All right, so before we get started with the voters. Okay, yeah, the voters got in stuff in North Carolina, wanted to just discuss a couple things with y' all real quick. So the child will be equipped. Because I watch these videos online, people don't know what they're talking about, including our vice president. Let's go through these definitions real quick. All right, so communism itself. Let's just go through these definitions, y'. All. Communism is a political and economic ideology that aims to create a classless, stateless society where the means of productions, distribution and exchange are owned and controlled by the public rather than private individuals. All right, so communism to the extreme is no state, no class for anyone. So no middle class, no upper, you know, end, and all of that. Wealthy class, none of that. Some of the key principles of it is abolition of private property. So major productive assets like factories, land mines, different machinery, they'll own. They'll be owned collectively by the state rather than private capital list or the opportunities there for private people to, I mean, private entities to, to gain. So that's the, the one extreme. We know exactly what that is. You do research on Karl Marx and Marxism and stuff like that or the Marxist theory, then you can kind of see where the definition of like, socialism will come into play. Now I just want to talk about socialism because the name for the DSA and stuff has been thrown around the democratic social socialists. I want to say, I don't know, it's not agency. Let's see here. My fault. Y'. All. Give me one second. Democratic Socialists of America, maybe see, yeah, the Democratic Socialists of America. So that's the DSA wing of the Democratic Party. Party. But again, socialism is an economic and a political philosophy where the means of production, such as factories, lands, machinery and natural resources are owned or controlled collectively by the community, public workers or state, rather than by private individuals or corporations. The primary goal of socialism is to replace profit driven competitive markets with a system that distributes wealth more equitably and direct economic activity to meet human and societal needs. So these are the kind of ironclad or black, black and white definitions of it. There's different types of socialism. So democratic socialism would seek to achieve a decentralized socialist economy and Common ownership through democratic political systems, replacing capitalism entirely. Social democracy retains an overall capitalist and market based economy, but uses heavy state regulation, high taxation and extensive social welfare programs to reduce inequality, commonly associated with Nordic models like Sweden and Denmark. And that's something that I think I can get behind right there. That is the social. So am I a social democrat perhaps? Right. Libertarian and anarchist socialism rejects both private capitalism and centralized state power, advocating instead for direct worker self management and decentralized community associations. Wow. So that's, that's a little bit extreme for, for my taste. Let's see here. The Marxists again, Lennon, Leninist or state socialism is more where it sees socialism as a necessary transitional phase after capitalism where a revolutionary or a centralized state controls the economy before moving towards a classless society. So they just see that as a pivot to communism or to again, a classless society. So wanted to give that definition for y'. All. Well, here you are. Work man toy over time, y', all, let's go to work. All right. And then the last definition that I did want to give out here, cuz it's a little, I don't know, it's kind of funny for me, but this white guy at my job, man, [00:33:48] Speaker AC: come after me. I'm a man. [00:33:51] Speaker A: He engaged in this conversation with me. Yo, we talking. Start talking about Christ. Talking religion. Okay, smooth. And this is the dangerous thing about talking with everybody that claims that they're Christian. So we talking about Christ and everything. And he, he says, hey, Jerome, you heard about what's going on in whatever he's at Minnesota. I'm like, no, they're trying to do Sharia law. So let's first go through this. Now, Sharia is the moral, ethical and religious guidance of Islam derived from the Quran and the Sunnah. And it's the pretty much the teachings and practices of the Prophet Muhammad. See here, Sharia is not a single uniform legal book. Instead, it functions as a comprehensive code of conduct covering both personal spiritual duties such as prayer and fasting, and social dealings such as family ethics and commerce. All right. In many Muslim majority countries, Sharia is formally integrated into family law systems to govern marriage, divorce and inheritance. Right. Only a minority of countries apply traditional Sharia principles to criminal offenses. Most Muslim majority nations use secular criminal codes influenced by European legal systems. So I say all of this to say there's no Sharia law to put into place. Like, I think I believe what, what people are doing with this is saying if in a crazy world, the majority of America becomes Islam, that some of our laws will be changed to, to adjust to sharia and their way of living. So if for instance somebody has two wives, how would a divorce go for one of the divorce and one of those wives or what not? And different things like that. I don't, it doesn't, you know, it's being used as a scare tactic. But again, I just wanted to break that down and in those definitions down, at least read through those especially while we on our building wisdom also wanted to bring this up real quick. Let's see. All right, so some of the key. Okay, yeah, back to communism real quick. Some of the countries that have ruling communist parties currently include China, Cuba, Laos, North Korea and Vietnam. So I just wanted to bring that up also. Okay. On our building wisdom segment. This is really going to be old building wisdom episode though because I just wanted to share with the audience, especially my audience in North Carolina, some of the key things and remain non partisan. I'm remaining non partisan, although y' all know I'm black. Okay, so gonna talk through this North Carolina voting guy real quick. If you have not voted, election day is November 3rd 3rd, you can vote early still through the 31st of October. Make sure you have a photo ID when you go up there and it should be easy peasy. But let's discuss real quick at the top of the ballot for North Carolina, they got the candidates for U. S. Senate. It's going to be Roy Cru. Roy Cooper is the Democrat, Michael Watley is the Republican. Now this guy doesn't provide profile candidates with less than 5% of support. So those are the two candidates that is showing right now for U. S. Senate. Michael Watley, former national Republican party chair. He led the recovery efforts in western North Carolina after hurricane Helene. Supports ICE and strong border. Excuse me. He supports ICE and strong border control, Emphasizes being tough on crime and creating safer communities and he supports Trump's tariffs, corporate tax reductions and pro oil energy policies. The Democrat, Michael, excuse me, Roy Cooper is a former governor and former attorney general. Led a state recovery through covet, period. Opposes the tactics of ice troops groups and supports civil rights protections. Emphasizes economic and health care reforms to address the affordability crisis and opposes Trump's tariffs, corporate tax reductions and pro oil energy policies. All right. For North Carolina supreme court justice. The supreme court justice, excuse me. North Carolina Supreme Court has seven justices. Their rulings affect everything thing. So like racial discrimination, school funding, voting rights, water quality, worker safety, utility bills, your privacy, plus more we get to choose one justice this year. This is for North Carolina supreme court justice, the Democrat, her Name is Anita Earls. She's now a justice on the North Carolina Supreme Court and a formal civil rights attorney. All right, Anita Earl. She'll uphold the rights enshrined in our state constitution, like access to health care, a sound basic education, and the right to vote. And she says that she's fighting to protect and defend the freedoms of everyday North Carolinians. She's endorsed by North Carolina association of Educators. All right, and then she's a Democrat. Anita Earls. Sarah Stevens is a Republican, the former legislator in General assembly and chair of our House judiciary Committee. She's a. She's an attorney that's focused on family law. She's a conservative voice for justice and an experienced conservative leader. And she's endorsed by North Carolina Values Coalition. All right, all right, y', all, so there's no need to, like, speed through, but I do want to talk about my weekend a little bit here in a second. All right, so where are we? Charlotte Mecklenburg. I don't know what Mecklenburg counts as. Somebody help me out. I don't know this. I don't know what district we're in. Okay, but U.S. house of Representatives. DRL. Yeah. Okay. All right. That's what it comes down to. Democrat, Republican, or libertarian, if you will. All right, so North Carolina General assembly, real quick. Sorry. Let's see here. Sydney Batch is our Democrat Senate leader. And the Republican Senate leader is Phil Berger. I don't believe that they're on the ballots, but the Democrat Senate leader, Sydney Badge, is assisted. Y' all. Okay? I don't know what that means in there. Anyways, let's move forward. All right, so this year, we'll be able to vote in North Carolina for three people to join the NC Court of Appeals. It has 15 judges already, but these judge decide appeals from the local court courts about property and personal disputes, civil rights and criminal cases. So these are court of appeals deceit. One is Michael C. Burn, a Republican, and John S. Arrowwood, a Democrat. No, John Arrow would look kind of familiar. Hold on now. Just saying. I ain't been in court that much, but that look kind of familiar. Okay, Shout out to judge Alwood. Anyways, see here. I don't have too much. Yeah. Again, so Michael Burn is the conservative candidate and will be a conservative judge. He's endorsed by the North Carolina Fraternal Order of Police. John Arrowwood is endorsed by the Labor's union of North Carolina. See here, the seat two is George Cooper Bell. Judge Bell is a Republican. He's grounded in faith and service. He's endorsed by North Carolina values Coalition. He's presided over 100 felony jury trials, including many murder cases. He's now a superior court judge. And then we have Toby Hampson, which is now a North Carolina court of appeals judge. He's ruled against disqualifying 656 5,000 vote voters. He's ruled against disqualifying 65,000voters in the Jefferson Griffin versus Allison Riggs election. So he ruled against disqualifying those orders. All right, Salute. And endorsed by the North Carolina Sierra Club and dorm Committee on Affairs of black people. Okay, Toby. And then the third seed is Christine Marie Wallsey. Jake, a democrat. She's now a district court judge. She says she's committed to an independent judiciary and to apply law equally without favoritism or bias. And she's endorsed by North Carolina association of Educators and College Democrats of America. She's going up against Craig Collins, a Republican who's now a superior court judge, Formerly an assistant district attorney. Attorney. Excuse me, Yonks. He says conservative judges matter now more than ever. What? What the what? Endorsed by the North Carolina fraternal Order of police. Y' all hear that, man? What the Conservative judges matter now more than ever. So pardon the noise in the background, y', all, but this is. That's what we have to look forward to during voting. Let's see here. The sheriff also is on there as well. Well, some counties elect their school board this year, others don't. You can go to ncvoter.org forward/guide for who's all the way on your ballot. And the winners will directly impact your life, of course. So it's important to understand their powers and duties. Our county commissioners, they are the board of county commissioners where they oversee zoning, housing and transit options, conservation programs, and vital services like the health department. So they set the budget for the schools, the sheriff's departments and other agencies. County commissioners, the city council. The town officials have. These town officials have similar duties to county commissioners for overseeing zoning, taxes, the police and other departments inside the city limits. The board of education. The board hires the school superintendent and oversees finance, pupil placement, school policies and local curriculum choices. The sheriff. The sheriff's office. The sheriff directs the manner of law enforcement in the county by hiring, training and deploying officers, setting priorities for the arrests and community outreach, and managing the county jail. The district attorney, the The D. A. Can influence public safety and equal justice by the choice of cases to prosecute, bail bond policies, plea deals, and alternatives to incarceration. And the district and superior court judges. These locally Elected judges decide cases ranging from adoption and divorce to property disputes and first degree murder. Their decisions may be appealed to higher courts in the state. So definitely, again, as far as with voting, definitely you plan ahead. Like check the registration@nc voter.org reg or reg you can check on there. If your status says inactive you can call the hotline 888hour vote to learn if you need to do something before you vote. Again, you just need a photo ID when you go up there in North Carolina. Driver's license is good. Good even if the address is old. Many student IDs work, you know, just bring a photo ID up there. I'mma see if my work but I have my Ls on me too. Assistance. All right, so it says any voter can get help at the polls from a near relative. If you have a disability you can get help from anyone except your employer or union. Union agent. You can also vote from a car curbside or use accessible voting machines at each poll. Okay, let's see here. Again, learn about your candidates can also go to vote411.org as well as the NC voter.org early voting. We discussed that. So election day voting will be 6:30am to 7:30pm Vote at your precincts designated polling place. Find your polling place at the same website. The vote by mail has become complicated. You need two witnesses or a notary plus over a dollar in postage, plus a copy of your ID or extra paperwork plus the risk of slow mail. So if you have the opportunity, just go into a a voting station. Go ahead and do that. Let's see here. And lastly again, the hotline number is 888 our vote. 888-687-8683 our vote. So make sure that y' all go out there, exercise your civic duty. I know I will be doing so. Oh, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. Got a lot going on. Got a lot going on. I'm sorry. Fantasy football team almost out of there. Okay, I didn't want to pivot to sports like that, but one time for my fantasy football weekend this past weekend. One time for the Panthers this past weekend. One time for the Knicks though. [00:49:01] Speaker AD: Love [00:49:02] Speaker A: got our first win of the year. Y' all got that monkey off the bat. Beat Detroit. You know what I'm saying? Now I did want to discuss this real quick. This past weekend I did go out to boiler yard brunch out here in Charlotte, out here in Camp Noran, up here in Charlotte. And he was out there enjoying ourselves. Reb was out there with me. Shout out to Patriot Patty. Patriot Patty came out there with us as well. Linked up with some guys from work out. This my brother Prince out there. Sean Prince. What up? Good seeing you out there, Rel. Of course, but R B, she was, like, in the middle of it because we was, you know, sitting, slipping, having a good time. So I thought she was super lit, but she pointed. She like, yo, that look over there, That's Skillet baby. That Skillet Baby. All right, well, look, I'm gonna look back now. Everybody knows Skiller Baby. He do, you know, he got that celeb look. Like he stands out. But he could look like any other. Let's be honest. Like, he could look like any walking through Northwood, North Lake Mall or. Or south park or something like that. However, come to find out, cuz, Sock went to a show on Monday night. Skilla baby show, man. So salute to Ari B. For spotting that Skiller baby out there in the middle of the crowd at the Boiler Yard brunch. And my bad. Okay? That was on me. I was like, all righty. Put your fingers down. Stop pointing. Hey. All right. A lot of people look like Skillet Baby out here, right? It's just because you just randomly see a brother that look like you're from Detroit don't mean it to Skillet Baby. Like, let's stop that. Okay, Stop. Come to find out I was wrong. So, you know. Oh, well, yeah, man. But salute again. I know. This is episode so more focused on getting this out before November 3rd so that we can make sure that we do our part on this end to encourage everybody to get out there and vote. Make your voice be heard. You know what I'm saying? All right, so we're gonna get out of here soon. I just wanted to play a couple things. Play this clip from. I wanted to go ahead and play a couple clips from my brother Duan B. You know what I'M saying as we continue, as we carry on. But you know, it's always [00:54:53] Speaker AK: hip hop, hip hop. [00:54:55] Speaker A: So, you know, we got it always. Instead of high star bars this week, I wanted to go ahead and play this stuff from brother Duan B, [00:55:07] Speaker AL: father of Rhythm and Blues, the Godfather. Rhythm and Blues was also rapper. Some of [00:55:11] Speaker AM: the chicks wore expensive frocks and some of them had on Barbie socks. But everybody was nice and high this particular Saturday night feast ride. [00:55:19] Speaker AL: Is that not rap, folks? Is that not rap? Is he not rapping? Is he not rapping? Rhyming. And he rhyming better than Drake. The only difference, the only difference is this was pre James Brown funk. Lewis Jordan was James Brown's inspiration. Lewis Jordan, who James Brown looked up to. Only difference between what he was doing and what will eventually become rap slash hip hop is the beat that was over a shuffle. That was a shuffle. When James Brown came in, he changed it from a shuffle to beat from a shuffle on the 1/8th note. Funk on the 1. It changed the pacing and the timing. And rap sounds better on the one than it does out of a shot shuffle. That's the difference. [00:55:58] Speaker A: All right, and then let's go ahead and just play this real quick. This is a little bit of Lewis Jordan, y'. All. [00:56:10] Speaker AN: You got to get it, got to get it, honey, go. [00:56:20] Speaker AM: You can understand this word. I mean I all [00:56:23] Speaker X: new [00:56:23] Speaker AM: squad in the mouse. But on Saturday night you go from house to house. You don't have to pay me to use the mission if you cook all the way around the good music. So if you have to be just passing by stopping at Saturday night beside one Rocket was Rocket. It was Rocket. It never seems to that's coming and shall tell the breaker of God. Now my buddy and me was on the main stem fool around just me and him. We thought we could use a little something to eat. So we stopped in at a house on Rampart Street. We knocked on the door and it opened with ease. And a lush little miss said come here please. Before we could even battle high, we were right in the middle of a big fish fry. It wasn't Rocket. It wasn't Rocket and MC set stuff and that jump Jellyfield duck. It wasn't Rocket. This was Rocket. You never see such dumbing and shell shell breakup done. Now the folks was having the time of their life. And Sam was jiving Jim his wife. And over in the corner was a beat up grand being played by big fat piano man. Some of the chicks wore expensive frocks and some of them had on Barbie Socks. But everybody was nice and hide this particular Saturday night beach ride. [00:57:52] Speaker A: All right, so, yeah, brotherly love out there. To Lewis Jordan, certainly. Brotherly love always.
